EXPRESSING THOUGHTS FOR NO REASON

From this........

To this......My sister recently gave me this old photo and it got me to remembering...................

My family is amazed at my reliance on my spouse. My children claim that they still see occasional glimpses of their feminist mom, even though I don't want that frightening independence ever again.

I was a single parent for 26 years. My primary focus in life was to expand my education and my career to make a better life for my kids. Then the children grew up, left home and my independence was boring as hell plus I was lonely.

In walks Prince Charming in the form of a retired Navy Chief. He took charge. He said I had been running amok for too long and needed some supervision.

I had been almost agoraphobic, going only to and from work, to church and to the grocery store. It was my plan to work at least until 70. But Ron managed to get me to venture outside my house. We traveled and talked and laughed and when we talked about marriage, he promised me a life of laughter and abject poverty.

There is so much to say about the importance of companionship. For a woman who vowed she did not need a man in her life to make life good, I'm glad Ron showed up to teach me differently. He is strong, dedicated, trustworthy, charming, intelligent and just a tad bit crazy. What more could anyone want?

It has almost been ten years since my life changed. Sometimes I need to pinch myself to believe that this man scooped me up and wrapped me in wonderful.

  9. What a story. How wonderful that you found each other. I too had to wait for my prince charming (not as long as you). I'm so glad you found that someone special.

  10. A wonderful tribute to Ron. I'm now at the stage where you were when work, church and grocery store were "entertainment." I've been a widow for 32 years, had a half-dozen dates in that time and couldn't find anyone I wanted a 3rd date with. Maybe my Ron was the ONE! Glad you're lovin' the life!

  12. For a moment there, I thought you wrote "retired Navy CHEF" and I thought "Boy, she REALLY hit the jackpot!" HAA! But I'll bet you're like me and love to cook, too!?

WHAT A MARVELOUS blog piece, Annie...Here's to MANY more happy, healthy years wrapped in wonderful!

  13. Z, we have a decorater front licensse plate on our van that reads "Senior Chief". One of our young grandson's ran in the house proud of his ability to read and in his best Spanish accent, called grandpa "Senor Chef".

He might as well have been a chef because he is the one in our house that can cook. I am just learning.

Thank you all for your nice comments. Ron and I are a typical couple with our arguments and disagreements but we are never cruel and we never go to bed without kissing each other goodnight.

I think I left out the best word that describes him....honorable!

  16. Thanks Cliff. I know you and Marilyn have your own unique love story.

Sammy, that's why I'm so excited about your expected child. With a loving spouse and a little boy, your life is going to be so full of fun and never a "dull" moment.

My husband says he is afraid now because I made him sound so good he's just sure some othe woman will come to steal him! (You wish, I told him!)

  19. Hooray for Ron!!!!
He's a manly man, and you hit the jackpot when you surrendered to his manliness.

    :-)

Nothing wrong with a bit of feminism, but when it turns into man hating.... No way! No how!!!

  20. "...wrapped me in wonderful" - what more could anyone ask for?

I'm always intrigued by how just the right person comes to us at just the right time.

Wishing you and Ron decades of pure wonderfulness, Granny Annie!
