A LOW MURMUR

It started shortly before 4:00 yesterday afternoon.  First a low murmur of a few pickup trucks pulling a boat or two.  Then the noise becomes a bit more steady.  Cars pulling boats too and camper trailers.  Four wheelers parading up and down the road as well as motorcycles.  Next we've got folks already walking or bicycling, enjoying the fresh air before darkness comes.  They have set up their camps and know what supper they will prepare over the fire tonight.

It remains a steady noise until the boats are launched and you hear the engines roaring until about 10 pm then the music begins to take over the serenity.  Thus it shall remain through out this Memorial weekend.  I am quite sure some fireworks will be added to the mix.

It will be Tuesday before I hear this again.
Hope everyone has a safe Memorial Weekend and will take a moment to remember those military men and women who gave their lives in the service of our country.

I know...right? But I have the joy of knowing my roosters will be waking them before dawn:)

Gee, I don't like noise of any kind, but I guess that happens when it is summer and there is a 3 day weekend.

  5. One of the things I hate about summer is the sound & smell of motorcycles and 4 wheelers in the field next to me. My grandkids are all with other grandparents this weekend but I think I will start a new family tradition next year by taking them to a Memorial Day Service. I doubt many kids even know what Memorial Day is all about any more.

It is actually one of the reasons I enjoy living here. I like to see people having fun.

Most of the motorcycle groups I see have the greatest respect for the military than any other groups and do show respect on Memorial Day. A lot of them served. I do hope many will stop on Monday and observe the day.

  7. Your Tuesday morning sounds are bliss.
    The others? Not my choice.
Happy Memorial Day weekend - which looks a bit odd written down - but you know what I mean.

  8. Love the dig your roosters will give them in the early morning.
We are quiet here with just a few more flags flown and a tender service.

  10. I will be having a few quiet moments with some dear friends at the cemetery.

  11. Amen to the Veterans and their sacrifices.
On the rest, that's what you get for living in a place that everyone else only dreams of living and can visit for only a short time.
To get even I suggest a microphone and speaker system on the Rooster.

  12. I was flabbergasted when I first heard of someone's plans for a camping weekend over the Memorial Day long weekend. I was in my 20's at the time. Memorial Day always meant a tour of cemeteries placing flowers on graves of ancestors. I will take my grandson to my parents grave to place some flowers today and we will go to the veterans' parade tomorrow.

  13. I always enjoy such goings on, but no longer participate - have a safe and wonderful weekemd

  14. Is there no end to Bank Holidays?
They are so surplus to requirement for an elderly widow. A grumpy elderly widow at that:)

  15. It so nice to hear your country night 'music'. Shouldn't someone tell that rooster he's not supposed to crow at night. Or was that pre-dawn music? Whatever it is, its a peaceful sound.

  16. Oh dear. I hope that you get at least some good-quality sleep this weekend, despite all the hubbub.

I am always in awe of those who have served in the military. I'm just lucky I wasn't born in Israel or I would have had my 2 years in the army too.

  17. My gigs go on until after midnight. Oops.

It's a bank holiday weekend here too. Hope things don't get too noisy for you! Wear ear plugs! I do every night. :D

  18. Oh man - you have more patience than I do. Forgot you live so close to a lake.

  19. My murmurs here are more slams n thumps! The boats n jetski s out the window at the ramp aren't as loud. Neighbors came down- only 15 feet out the kitchen windows. Amen for quiet back soon! N paid respects for the fallen soldiers, from the Revolution to present day!

  20. Sounds like a lot of company over there. There were lots of campers at parks around the area I was this past weekend, too.

Many people say “Happy Memorial Day”. It's just a natural greeting for any holiday I guess.

My roosters get started very early because there is a light in the chicken house that confuses them quite often. Our flag is flying high and the only thing wrong is that it makes so much motion it catches my surveillance camera and sets it off all the time.

    Amen

And that's what it's all about.

With four roosters, I really don't need a sound system. They can let go quite loudly. Often I will meet new neighbors and they will say, “Oh, you're the one with the roosters.” Oops:)

Our town celebration only consisted of lining the streets with American flags.

Crowds become more difficult for all of us these days.

“Bank Holidays”? I notice that is how you and LL Cool Joe both refer to these occasions. Why is that?

    Pat MacKenzie
There is often weekend music from the lake. Our grandchildren so want to walk down there and join in and have never understood why they are not allowed. My 18 year old granddaughter has announced that this summer she is going down there because she is old enough and can take care of herself. Guess you know that means I will be following closely:)

My nephew-in-law was born in Israel and owes their military two years so fears going back to visit his father and sister. He wants to take his family but we all fear that.

    LL Cool Joe
Do you play any gigs on the lakes or beaches? Yes these parties go on well past midnight.

    Riot Kitty
I don't mind because I truly sleep like a log, but Slim does seem to object quite often:)

I actually enjoy the sounds of slams and thumps. Reminds me of being at my grandparents cabin and hearing the boats in the docks. The boats and jet skis have quieted today and actually started bailing out early yesterday morning so yesterday was fairly quiet to observe Memorial Day.

    Lynn
Did you go around and meet all the campers and share stories of all the good things around?

  22. We spent time at the cemetery on Sunday since Memorial Day Monday is so crowded. Wishing you a peaceful, quiet week.
