CANNOT WIN FOR LOSING

DANGER?  REALLY?

Have you heard of Orthorexia Nervosa yet?  It is a disorder that stems from eating TOO MUCH HEALTHY FOOD.  It is a disorder that kills. This new type of eating disorder is emerging where people are becoming obsessed with eating to improve their health.

What ever happened to "Listen to your body.  It knows what it needs"?

Okay, okay, so my body does tell me that it needs a little too much pie, cake and a few too many cookies:)

  1. no never heard of it, but i am becoming increasingly alarmed that all the healthy foods have all the really bad stuff in them - all natural of course....high arsenic in brown rice and dark chocolate, more E. coli in organic greens that the others and other things that are just plain scary!

  2. Brite Mist -- Are we approaching the food source seen in science fiction movies that provides all our meals in pill form? It looks like there is nothing that is good for us.

  4. I've always been a great believer in balance being everything (maybe it's because I'm a Libra) so I like a little junk food mixed in with a healthy diet. No way am I giving up the occasional Big Mac! :)

    Have a beautiful weekend, Joey!

  5. Yes I've heard of it, but don't suffer from it because my diet includes "bad" things along with healthy stuff.

Moderation in all things... including moderation ;-)

  6. If everything we eat is potentially bad for us then maybe we should just eat what we like best and not worry about the side effects. Time to embrace the "eat, drink and be merry..." Philosophy???

  7. Fascinating! That's something I used to see when I worked in health food stores. People would get crazy with their food restrictions. It's a good name for the problem.

Yeah, and we could eat ourselves to death. Not that I care. At least, I'll die happily.

  9. There is a limit to everything. I had no idea this disorder was out there. Too much exercise is also not healthy. Too much of a good thing isn't good.

  10. I've been fighting anorexia all of my life. Quite sucessfully I might add.
I'm with you, my body says eat home made strawberry shortcake and half and half. But only if preceeded by a grilled ribeye.

  11. I came home for the grocery store the other day with several cans of sardines. I know many people don't like them. But I told Char I just felt like sardines. Come to find out they are one of the healthiest fish you can eat. I guess I listened to my body.

  12. I hadn't heard of this, but it makes sense. Everything I put in my mouth is bad for me, absolutely everything. Might as well have some whipped cream on my milk shake; it's no use fighting it.

  13. Hmm! Interesting and I guess you are right that you can't win for losing. I don't think this is a disease I am in danger of suffering from.

  14. Is that a spoof? If not, and I say this as someone who is part Swiss, only the Swiss would come up with something like that!

  15. My body always wants pizza n ice cream. Good thing I don't always listen either- But I'm in no danger of contracting that condition, tho do usually eat healthy.

  16. Brown English Muffin -- Yesterday my body told me that I needed chocolate cream pie:)

Talon -- What is the appeal of a Big Mac? I love them and craved them when I was pregnant with my daughter.

cube -- Yep, you've hit the nail on the head. Moderation!

Pat MacKenzie -- Oh yes, I like it. Eat, drink and be Merry. WooHoo!

Sparkling Red -- I could never afford to get crazy in a health food store. Whew!

gigihawaii -- Since we're gonna die anyway, why not go out with a smile?

Ileana -- Well now there are a few things we can't get too much of but food probably shouldn't be one of them.

Cliff - Love it! I too do well fighting anorexia. lol

Ralph -- Ron likes sardines but he also goes for pickled pigs feet and cow tongue. I have a difficult time sharing with him and maybe that's why he eats it...to keep the food for himself:) Does Char like sardines?

Kerry -- If you can't lick them, join them and lick the whipped cream. lol

Jeanie -- No danger of that disorder for me either.

Riot Kitty -- Not sure where the disorder evolved. Might as well blame the Swiss.

Snaggle Tooth -- I am confident that pizza and ice cream contain all the recommended food groups...as long as you add strawberries to the ice cream.

  19. I did not know that any such problem existed. I have just started eating right. How long before we eat right do we get this disease?

  20. Lynn -- Isn't it though:)

Munir -- I believe guilt is what causes weight problems. We spend too much time trying to chose our poison. No coffee...okay yes coffee. No eggs...yes eggs. No meat or cheese...yes, some milk, some cheese. Too many raw vegetables...not enough raw vegetables. Our worry about eating is raising our stress levels and causing us to go too far one direction or the other.
