TAKE A LOOK

Many bloggers read entries without going to the homepage of the blog.  When you do this you miss seeing the wonderful header designs and the interesting sidebars.  Our fellow bloggers put a lot of artwork into their designs

Sonny of 155 Dream Lane is hosting another giveaway of a specialty design and you can enter by going to her blog before January 29th.  If you are like me and don't have a flair for graphic art, you might have the opportunity to win a beautiful design from Sonny.  She has exceptional skills in this area.

Meanwhile try to look at more of our blog headers and read some sidebars to learn more about your blog friends.

  1. As aways, love Slim on the sofa up there. And I just scrolled down your blog sidebar and found that the traffic feed thinks I am in Roswell, Georgia - I've noticed that before on those feeds on other blogs, it says a different suburb of Metropolitan Atlanta every time, but never the one I actually live in. (Tucker, Georgia.) :)

I had my blog look redesigned last year and have been so happy with it. Definitely a great giveaway from Sonny.

  4. Yes, I love the creativity put into headers and sidebars. It's like going into a home and "seeing" the owners personality.

  5. Lynn -- I definitely love your blog design. Yes the feedjit makes it difficult to know where folks are from because it gets the locations wrong. Did you happen to notice I have had over 146,000 views in my almost eight years blogging?

Sonny -- You're welcome:) Someone is going to be very happy on the 29th.

Always Nesting -- It is like going into a home. You can tell by my design that my home is decorated in "Early Attic". LOL Love the look of your family room you showed today in your post and the entertainment center.

  6. like the sweet comfy pup in your header!
I always go to the home of a blog, even if I'm linking thru my friends connection
I don't use a reader, I have all my blogging buddies bookmarked :)

  7. 99% of the time I do go to the actual blog - otherwise I can't leave a comment.

Even though it is generic, except for my flower photo at the top, I still like my blog page. When I get bored with it, I change the colors and add a new photo.

  8. Thanks for pointing me in the direction of Sonny. I now realize how very little talent I have and I would have had no way of knowing that without you two.

  9. Dianne -- Slim is indeed comfy. She wandered into paradise almost 7 years ago and went from being covered with ticks and her ribs sticking out to the queen of the household.

Judy -- I have seen a lot of changes in you blog heading thought the years and it has always been lovely.

Cliff -- Your blog definitely reflects your personality. Bold and to the point.

  10. I always go to the home page when I read blogs....you are right that it is fun to see the "personality" on the page. After I had some HTML problems on my page a few years ago my daughters gave me a blog page design as a gift and I have stuck with the same on since then.

  11. Jeanie -- I would see no reason to ever change your great blog header. Love seeing Dodger on your side bar. You love your canine child as much as I love mine. Slim would be much nicer to Dodger than Sammie was.

  12. I will check it out. Actually, the first thing I read is everything else on the blog page. You're right, it's a big insight into the writer!

  15. Riot Kitty -- I am not surprised that you review the subject. It's the journalist in you:)

Kerry -- Love seeing Ed and Reub!

Charlotte Crawley -- Well get over to Sonny's place. You still have two days to win the design.

  16. I try to go to a given blog's home page at least once a week. Sometimes to comment, but more often to read the post in question as it sometimes loses something if I'm reading it as a feed.

My blog's front page is very generic as it's been the original that I chose when I started blogging back in '08. The only that has changed throughout the years is picture in the header. Currently it's a shot of autumn on Cedar Mountain, and since Spring is around the corner, I'll probably skip a winter seasonal pic.

  17. I always open the blog, but I confess sometimes I spend less time there then I should. Thanks for the reminder...

  18. Agree! There's a lot that goes into a good blog design, and eye candy is just a part of it.

  21. Most of my regular blog readers are my Facebook friends... that's when I stopped putting themes up on my blog. No one saw them.

I'm also guilty of reading through a feeder.

  22. I have memory problems with this computer. Someday I'll get a new one, n doing stuff like that will be faster. I clicked to the blog, but 20 minutes later I'm still waiting for loading.
The ancient, html controlled design ESR uses can't insert an image in the header, I've made some it wouldn't do. Will not update it to a new template until I'm forced to a new url to continue, or have a faster machine. I've tried new ones with my other blogs, n don't have the control I wish over my sidebar there.
I never use a reader for the same loading issue.

  23. G.B. Miller -- Your word design takes up all your time so you wouldn't have time for graphic design.

Chatty Crone -- Opening a blog page is like stepping into the home of a friend.

Susan Adcox -- That is exactly why my blog design is simple. Don't think my brain could handle all the design work. I sure admire those who can manage it so beautifully.

Cliff -- I went back and added another comment on your last line.

Brite Mist -- I am still having a difficult time finding out about you. I don't understand this google + sharing thing. I appreciate your coming here.

Bonnie (BIZ) -- Lots of my blog friends are also Facebook friends. It can get confusing.

Snaggle Tooth -- Oh boy, I'm afraid I remember those days of really slow loading. You are so talented and your old computer is holding you back. One day you will have a new computer and then it will be "Watch Out World!".
