I HOPE I AM A REDWOOD

Click to read more about REDWOODS

A recent morning meditation led me to an interesting fact.  Some of you may know this and some of you may not.  Everyone should, so I am sharing.

You would think that the roots of the redwood trees go amazingly  deep in order to support the size and weight of these magnificent trees.  The roots do not go especially deep.  The tree's strength comes because its roots spread out laterally and intertwine with roots of other redwoods providing mutual support. The mighty redwoods depend on each other.

Blog friends seem to have this same type of surface roots that support and strengthen each of us as we reach grow taller in our knowledge and reach new heights of  understanding plus the sharing of lots of laughter.

How fun is that to  imagine at the very tip top of the huge trees they are all laughing and smiling together for anywhere from 500 to 2000 years?

  1. Good morning. I have never seen the redwoods and it's been something I've wanted to do since I was very small. Love the analogy.

  5. Thank you for sharing that. It's very uplifting. I hope our blog roots interlink for a long time.

  6. Seriously Though -- I would love to actually go to the Redwood National Park. The website was so interesting and the photographs were great, even thought they made it clear that it is difficult to take a picture of a redwood tree.

Sonny -- Aren't you nice! Yep many of us just hitch ourselves together from all walks of life and from many different countries. Who knew roots could spread to far:)

Changes in the wind -- I felt sure you would be someone who already new the root system of the redwoods. I did find it so fascinating. Glad you did too.

Lynn -- Thanks. I'm pretty sure though that I'm not too strong. Just think of all the groups we link up with besides blogs that strengthen us just by association. Ain't life grand!

cube -- I hope we stay linked as well. So many have slipped away through the cracks of life but hopefully a lot of us will always blend and stay in touch.

  7. What a great analogy. This is sort of what we are and what we do. Strength in numbers.

  9. Annie:

Here we are, a city girl and a country girl.

I depend on you all the time to tell me about your life at Nol Noc Estates and your animals. They are so different from anything I have ever known but I have learned to love Mr.Gibson, and Jack Bauer and David and Chiclet and of course,Slim.

So, I suppose our roots do run deep and entwine because I love to read all about you and your life on the farm,so different from my own, and yet I hope that you enjoy hearing from me and knowing how much I appreciate your sharing your life with me.

  10. This is such a lovely analogy. It's so true that we are all supporting each other. I love seeing you on my sidebar and knowing you are there to help me understand and keep me company.

  11. Did you see the film "Avatar?" The trees communicating to each other was my fave concept of the story. There are Star Wars series books that describe the intelligent tree species of Isthmor (before the planet was destroyed by war) which was cool to ponder- so the Redwood support system concept isin't that far-fetched to me.

I thought we were going to pick a tree to be- I'll be a Curly Maple so I get carved into violins someday.

  12. Have I mentioned I'm really short?

  13. Tabor -- Yes strength in numbers. Even with some differences we share a basic love of nature and life experiences. It's a good foundation for a root system.

Shionge -- You are such a vital part of this system because of your distance in Singapore. Your bring a lot of new knowledge to many of us.

Nancy -- And I appreciate your sharing your life through your wonderful stories. You have had such a fun and interesting life and it is wonderful to learn all about it.

Kay -- I was a bit concerned when you disappeared for a while but am glad you are back in the connection especially with your beautiful pictures and stories of living in Hawaii.

Snaggle Tooth -- Walt Disney always brought the trees to life and I loved that and have often imagined all our trees keeping watch over us. An amazing thing about redwood trees is that they do not burn. Instead fires surrounding them actually insure their future growth. No, did not know you were short. Just how short are you? I always thought I was tall until my children passed me in height and started calling me shorty. You would make beautiful music as a violin by the way:)

  16. Having seen a number of large trees felled during storms, I am amazed at how shallow their root systems are. Didn't know that about redwoods, however.

Dani -- I tried to friend you. Are you D'orso or Dorso?

Judy -- You are an original in my span to blog roots. Your comments were among the first to keep me on this journey.

Cliff -- I'm guessing if you fell in the forest we would hear it no matter where we were, is that what you're saying? Hey, I think you were complimenting me but biggest of the big is not a uh ...well...just sayin'
