WHERE DID IT GO?

I watched all seasons of 24, THE SHIELD, RESCUE ME and THE SOPRANOS on Netflix. What would I watch next? Jessi suggested THE WIRE. Today I finished season 5, the final season, of that magnificent HBO series.

How and why did this series end after only five seasons? It didn't compete with any other shows because it wasn't like any other shows.

I spent yesterday morning in tears watching the Presidential Inauguration. I spend yesterday afternoon in tears watching the final episode of THE WIRE. If you have not seen this series based in Baltimore, written by a former Baltimore Sun Editor, filled with violence and nudity, yes, but a lot of fearful reality in corrupt politics, the plight of dock workers, the damage of school testing and the wasted lives of precious children encompassed by drugs, you must see it.

Something else will come from Netflix today and I don't even care.

Yesterday my ILYB blog linked to my goddaughter, Jessi and she linked to crowd crush warnings about the Inauguration.

Look for today's "I Love Your Blog" link.

Also, in case you only see one day's post of mine at a time on your blog roll, I'm going to start posting a link to my previous post from the day before.

  1. Have you seen Mad Men yet? It's a series about advertising executives in New York in the 60's. One of the best series I have ever seen! There are two seasons now and they are working on a third. I would highly recommend it!

I feel so OUT OF THE LOOP!! The only thing I watch is TWO AND A HALF MEN. The rest of the time, if I'm not cleaning the house, smoking, eating, I'm on the pc. Which reminds me.....I'm also on the pc when I'm smoking or eating.

    I need a life.

  3. I've never seen The Wire, or CSI, or Law and Order, or any that you mention except the Sopranos - so I guess I am totally out of the loop.

  4. Have you tried The Shield? We liked the first couple of seasons best, but it held our interest all the way through...

  5. I don't watch much TV. I like Ghost Hunters and Ice Road Truckers. But that's about it. Hubby watches all the CSI's so if I'm in the living room with him, will watch those.

  6. My daughter and I were wanting to watch a show together while she was home from college. We chose Battlestar Gallactica (the newer one), and we began with season 1 and watched through season 3. I was surprised how much I got into that show!
I've never seen The Wire. I will have to see that one too on your recommendation.
    :-)

  7. Thanks Kathrine. I've started Mad Men and I like it. Will it eventually have some blood and gore? Do you still watch all those real murder mysteries and forensic shows?

Dana, we also favor TWO AND A HALF MEN and my other favorite is 24. They are across from each other and I don't have ability to record. It's a bummer clicking back and forth for the first 30 minutes.

Judy, THE WIRE is similar to THE SOPRANOS in the sense that you get attached to very violent people.

Oh yes Linda, I have watched all of THE SHEILD that is available on DVD and am waiting for the 6th and 7th seasons to be released.

Bonnie, ICE ROAD TRUCKERS scares me to death. How do those guys ever get the nerve to drive those roads???

Okay JD if you watch THE WIRE on my recommendation, at least give it the first four episodes before you give up. I kind of think you will like it. Suddenly I realize I've recommended a pretty brutal show and could end up with people watching it and looking at me kind of funny.

  8. How about the BBC series A Touch of Frost? Somehow, I think you would love it:)

  10. You know I haven't watched any of those shows. I do like Lost and it starts tonight. I really don't watch much TV. I leave for work at 7am get home 6pm. Eat sometimes, line up stuff for work, sometimes work on work stuff, and if I watch TV, I'm out like a light.

  12. Have you ever watched Keeping Up Appearances? It's just wonderfully funny.

  13. THE WIRE is a stunning series, probably the greatest television show of recent years, and this is coming from someone who is rabidly obsessed with "24." I am so glad you have had a chance to experience this show and to anyone who has not seen it yet, I second your glowing review.

In 100 years, when people look for an honest take on inner-city life in our time, THE WIRE will be a show of record. It's depressing and magnificent all at the same time.

  14. No blood and gore in Mad Men. Sorry! And yes, I still watch true crime shows. The First 48 on A&E is my favorite!

  15. Linda, I'll look for TOUCH OF FROST. Thanks for the tip.

Leon, thanks for stopping by. I'll look you up.

Marla, I was addicted to LOST until last season. I actually got "lost". I may take another look at it.

If you liked those two Loving Annie, you will like THE WIRE.

Oh Riot Kitty, I believe KEEPING UP APPEARANCES is a "riot". Reminds us so much of one of Ron's brothers and wife. They even admit it.

Adam, I'm glad you love THE WIRE also. I should have known. Summing it up as "depressing and magnificent all at the same time" truly says it all. Do you happen to know why they brought it to an end after only five seasons?

It looks like a lot of us watch BBC. CRACKERS was a great series too.

  16. In above comment, Marla said exactly what I have been saying bout Lost...They totally lost me, I got annoyed with it..they pulled a "Twin Peaks" in going over board and losing most viewers.
As for suggestions, have u seen 'Six Feet Under'...My husband and I rented the series...because we weren't getting it here...and personally, I love watching shows that way..no commercials!! lol...
