QUESTION OF THE WEEK FEBRUARY 1, 2021

What would you say or do if a homeless person offered you a fresh strawberry?

  1. This is a very interesting question. The first thing I would do is thank him/her profusely with a little anecdote about my love for strawberries. Then I would admire how lovely it was and again offer my appreciation for such a lovely gift.
I suppose the real question is "would I eat it'. That would be the same as a fresh strawberry offered to me by any stranger, homeless or not, and the answer would be no.

  2. Thank you. And sadly I am with Anne on the subject of eating it. I do not eat food (any food) offered to me by strangers.

  3. I would thank the person and comment on the generosity but probably tell a white lie and say I was allergic to strawberries.

  4. We are so use to giving them something, for them to give us something would be startling. I would love to think I'd say "thank you very much" and take the strawberry but doubt my first instinct would have been that. Thanks to you though, having posed the possibility, I think I could now thank him or her, take it and try to think of a way to repay.

  5. My response to this is pretty much the same as the one given by Anne in the Kitchen.

  6. "no thank you, I've just had lunch."

  7. Thank you! I will take it home and use it in a still-life! But the reality is I would simply refuse it quietly.

  8. Unfortunately, in this time of Covid, I'd say thank you but not take the gift. Once a man I didn't know took a knife out of his pocket and sliced an orange for me in the grocery store. I ate it!

  9. "I'm sorry. I don't eat fruit."

But to be fair, I wouldn't take food from anybody. Unsanitary! 😂

  10. I would say, "Thank you for your kindness but I am allergic."

  11. If it was in the basket they come in from the store, i might well simply take one and let her/him know i don't eat unwashed fruit, but i will take it home and enjoy it.

If it was handed to me, i probably would say thank you, but with Covid and my pre-existing conditions, i can't get close enough to you to accept it, although i would thank her/him profusely.
