BREAD CRUMBS

The book is started and ink has been placed upon a page:)
It is indeed a daring adventure.  My first brave step has been taken and that is the step of marking the book with my handwriting.  Now there is no turning back.  I have selected the photographs of my parents.  These go on the second and third places for pictures.  The first space is for a picture of me and that will probably be the last picture I will place.

It asks for pictures of how I remember my parents.  Of course I remember my dad standing behind the pulpit.  I would not remember him at the age in this particular picture because it was taken in 1946, the year I was born.

I would not remember my mother at the age in her photo either because it was taken when she was in college.  But I remember looking at the picture often and marveling at how beautiful she was and wondering how that lovely girl could ever have turned into my hard working sun up to sundown mother.

There is room to write a lot about them and I will get started but I do wonder if there will be enough room because they were an amazing couple and how to narrow it down will be a challenge. You will not end up seeing my entire book for my grandchildren, but I will share a few bread crumbs as I go along.

You and I were born in the same year, 1946. You are lucky you have nice photos of your parents when they were young.

  3. That is a lovely project. I love the pictures you have chosen for your parents.

I had the exact same feeling about looking a pictures of my mother when she was young and so happy. I used to pore over her high school yearbooks - I loved the carefree photos of she and her friends. (And I have those yearbooks now - I asked for them when she passed away.)

I especially like that photo of my dad behind the pulpit in 1946 because they said I was born on a Sunday and mother was at the hospital giving birth and dad STILL preached overtime:)

We are the first official baby boomers:)

This is going to be fun and it will be much easier than having to think up all the order myself.

Did your mother dress like June Cleaver? My mother ALWAYS wore shirtwaist dresses and never jeans or peddle pushers. Certainly never shorts. After all she was the preacher's wife.

  5. My mom was born in 1946 as well. 9 months after the end of WW 2.

What a lovely keepsake for your children and grandchildren.

  7. She did dress just like June Cleaver when I was growing up. :) She started wearing pants late in life and favored Alfred Dunner pantsuits.

  8. This is such an excellent thing you are doing for your kids and grands. Glad the handwriting isn't giving you problems. I would have to hire someone my handwriting is so awful thanks to computers.

I always like to say I was the first official Baby Boomer because my birthday is June 2, 1946 and VJ day is September 2, 1945 which means that would be my conception day and my folks were doing some for sure celebrating:)

Oh thanks. I hope they will be interesting crumbs.

Okay, yes my mom did wear pants later in her life too. I am thinking she probably wished she had started wearing them earlier.

I will start out being very careful with my handwriting but I know it will get more and more sloppy as I go further along. I simply am a terrible mess with my writing. Hopefully the grandchildren will be able to decipher it.

  11. What a wonderful thing to do. Something that will be cherished. And it will also be very emotional putting it together I imagine.

    All the best to you.

And I hope you have a wonderful Easter. :)

  12. It is strange when we see photos of our parents when they were young and vibrant...and strangers to us. That is such a great gift you are giving to your family, Annie.

  15. That's a wonderful project!

My mom and both her sisters were so pretty when they were girls that they all could have been professional models. I am often stunned by their beauty in old photos. They are still pretty ladies, but of course nothing beats the look of youth.

  16. Eagerly eating the crumbs! That is so neat. Your grandchildren are so lucky. None of my grandparents have ever been interested in any of us.

  17. My old Irish Granny was the only Grandparent who was still living when I was a child.

She came to live with us and she filled my young head with so many myths and superstitions I still remember and subscribe to most of them today. (Don't ever let the Moon shine on your bed...Always leave by the same door you entered...If you whistle you make the Blessed Mother cry...If you hear a cow moo, it means someone died..It went on and on..)

I have written the story of her living with us for my children to read and they are really amused by the things she did and the stories she told.

If I buy this book you are telling us about (And I am highly tempted to try it) I will have plenty to fill up those pages.

I know exactly how you felt when, with pen in hand, you made your very first mark on that precious book. Good luck and inspiration to you..
