When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around.  But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.  ~Author unknown

Sherman made the terrible discovery that men make about their fathers sooner or later... that the man before him was not an aging father but a boy, a boy much like himself, a boy who grew up and had a child of his own and, as best he could, out of a sense of duty and, perhaps love, adopted a role called Being a Father so that his child would have something mythical and infinitely important: a Protector, who would keep a lid on all the chaotic and catastrophic possibilities of life.  ~Tom Wolfe, The Bonfire of the Vanities

A favorite picture of my son and his daughter.

Whitemist -- Thanks, glad you enjoyed the quotes.

  7. one of the best men who ever lived came along when I was 2 and said "Yes" I will take on the responcibilty for that little life and do my best to help her live in this world and not be Of It anymore than absolutely necessary and thats exactly what he did. I lost him at 19 but I give thanks for him every day and I can still hear his words whisper in my ears , even 38 years after he moved on to another plane of existance. I say his name and feel is presense and this morning upon awakening I told him, Happy Fathers Day Daddy and thank you for choosing me.

  8. sonny -- That is a beautiful tribute and I know he was a wonderful father.

  9. Sweet and such important bits of wisdom for all parents.

  11. Sweet picture! I love the one about pictures where the money used to be. I'm sure my dad can relate to that.

  12. What a great Father's Day tribute. My dad was awesome, my father in law was awesome and my son Wade is awesome. In good time, Scott will also be an awesome dad. My favorite quote is: It is not flesh and blood but the heart which makes us fathers and sons. ~Johann Schiller
This is so true of my husband and my sons. He took the package deal when we got married and ran with it. He NEVER calls my boys his stepsons, just his sons. And they call him Dad. I always get teary eyed when I take the time to think about how much those 3 love each other.
