A CUT ABOVE OTHER REDNECKS

I stand above, or at least right with, other rednecks. The above photograph is a bit of remodeling I needed to do yesterday and rather than use duct tape (my usual repair tool) I had to fall back on electrician's tape. My son-in-law has been amazed for years over the innovative work that has been completed by me with just a little tape and/or glue. The first time my daughter brought him to our home he got to view my vacuum cleaner totally held together by duct tape. It amazed him. That was all, of course, BR (Before Ron). Since Ron has been ill, I am pretty much left to my own devices. Anyone care to venture a guess on what I was attempting to accomplish here?

Poor Ron is not able to keep me from running amok and just had to shake his head and crawl back in bed yesterday when he saw that the fire I started (with my sister's help) in our incinerator. It had gotten out of control and spread rapidly. Thankfully the carpenter was here and helped my put out the fire. He sprayed it with water and then, when the well ran dry, we beat the fire out with shovels. I was proud that I was able to restart the well pump but when I tried to explain all then events to Ron, he wasn't very impressed. And yes, we are in a drought and under a state wide burn ban but I forgot. After all we have been without AC and my brain is a little more fried than usual. Penalty is a hefty fine or JAIL. OMG!!!

My son called and was not surprised to learn the events of my day, including my moving our porch refrigerator and getting pinned between the washing machine and the refrigerator for a time when only the strength of Samson finally came upon me. He ask me if he was going to have to move in with us to keep me from doing crazy things. I would just about guess some phone conferencing is going on among our children discussing what to do about mom:)

  1. This made me think of that joke - What is better than a roll of duct tape?

  2. I love your enginuity Ann. I think we're very similar in that way. I don't want to have to wait for someone to come do what I'm SURE I can do myself. HOWEVER you need be careful woman! Know your limits. If your blog just stops I'm gonna figure you bit off more than you can chew and got pinned under a refrigerator or something! LOL!

  3. We do what we have to do. That's my motto! When we are the only ones that can do it, then it gets done the best way we can figure out how to do it.

My guess is that you were taping the cord so it would stay inside the chain...only a guess and probably wrong!

I'm glad the fire was able to be contained. That would have been scary. I'm sure Ron spends some time praying that his dear wife doesn't get killed while he is sick and unable to do things!

    Be careful Annie!

  4. I am going to guess that you fixed a frayed electric wire? Think you might want to write down your ideas before putting them into action:)

  5. Lynn -- That's not a joke. That's the absolute God's truth! LOL

OGO -- I will have my sister or one of my children make a blog report if the fridge finally gets me.

Rachel -- My motto too. I can accomplish something in half the time it would take three guys to do it. I was shortening the chandelier to accommodate the second refrigerator so the doors would open. I now have both refrigerators in our kitchen until the AC is repaired. Yes Ron keeps telling us it will be a disaster if we both end up with serious medical problems. I'll try to be good.

Changes in the wind -- I answered the question about what I was doing in response to Rachel's comment. Hope you see that. I guess I could write my ideas down but I truly thought I had planned the refrigerator move well. I measured and everything but I failed to include the compressor sticking out in the back with the measurements. That's how I got stuck. Also I usually get on the internet to check for burn bans before I light the fire and don't know what got into me to barrel through on this one.

  6. I think most women are self sufficient, but you, dear lady, must be more careful. Lucky for you the carpenter was there for your fire. And I have been "stuck" in some situations, lol.

  9. Independent women do what they have to do in order to get things done. You've had a very productive day. Congratulations on not being burned, squashed or crushed. I am woman. Hear me roar!! Glad to find your blog. I'll take lessons from you here.

  11. Oh my goodness, Annie! What have you been up to since I've been gone? Duct tape, out-of-control fires and fridges full of attitude - oh my! :) (Obviously the fridge didn't know the power of Annie!)

I totally believe in the power of duct tape and lol'd at Lynn's joke.

Hope you and Ron are surviving and managing to thrive. We're in week 4 with not a drop of rain. The ground is seriously cracking. I hope we both get some relief soon.

  12. Bonnie – Thanks Bonnie. I shall try to be more careful. As I mentioned, my sister was here for part of this and her nickname is “Killing Snakes” because that’s the way she goes at things. I am definitely “Killing Snakes II”,

Tabor – As always, you offer sound advice. We’re about to wear out our children and grandchildren for sure and are glad to have their help as often as possible..

Riot Kitty – The sad part is that Ron is not supposed to be under any stress right now. Just being married to me is more stress than he needs in healthy times so imagine what this is doing to him. Yikes!

Pat MacKenzie – Oh no Pat, don’t take lessons from me or you’ll really end up in trouble. Glad to see you again.

LZ Blogger – Thanks. I had to go look and see what the title was because I forgot. LOL

Talon – You’re back! Talon is back! Hip Hip Hooray!!! WooHoo! Yes Ron and I are surviving but can’t speak to the thriving part yet. Can’t wait to go see if you have posted already.

  13. Oh, Annie, please do be careful. That fire could easily have went out of control. Glad you had someone there to help.

My siblings and I have been phone conferencing about our mother. LOL So sorry that Ron isn't well. I will keep you both in my prayers.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  14. TG you were able to get the fire out! How scary! So is getting stuck in the tight spot between appliances. That kind of stuff has happened to me doing everything on my own here too! (I am too bruised to mow today)

Also, remember you have lost weight, so can't move the heavy things as easy as you used to!

  15. Mary -- It is difficult to even imagine what I would have done if the carpenter had not been here. My sister had already gone home and I could never have put it out by myself because it was spreading in two directions. It took both of us to take charge of each direction of the spread. Thank you for keeping us in your prayers.

Snaggle Tooth -- I may have lost weight but I'm exercising too so I am stronger than I was when I was heavier. However I did learn a frightening lesson and will not try such a thing again. Plus I too am bruised and in pain from my efforts. I was a single mom and head of household for 26 years and, like you, had to do these things on my own so I am still moved to take charge from time-to-time.

F.Y.I. to all my blog friends, we awakened in a very cold house this morning and it felt like we were inside the refrigerator. YES! Our AC is finally fixed. WooHoo!

  16. Ha ha you crack me up! Good for you! Well not the fire, or getting trapped but for getting on and doing what needs doing!

Glad someone was there to help put the fire out though!

  17. LL Cool Joe -- Well thank you Joey. You were nice to applaud my innovation. I can see why you are a good parent.

  18. Hahaha - I'll take you in, Annie! :)

Good thing that fire was put out and that you are all safe and in one piece.

    Stay cool, chica! xo

PS - I mentioned you in today's post.

  20. Annie, thinking of you and Ron today and hope you're having one of those lovely Sundays where nothing too pressing is going on and you can relax a little. Keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers.
