  2. LISA, going to my paternal grandparent's house over any holiday was always the best treat for me. I have lost parents and grandparents but have my siblings and thank God every day for them.

  4. Lots of food and all of us being together for the holiday. We mostly had only immediate family and sometimes a friend, but it was nice having the house filled.

  5. Big family gatherings with lots of aunts, uncles and cousins, but I am grateful to still have those kinds of gatherings with my own kids and grandkids.

  6. The thing I miss the most is that feeling that one day was not 24 hours, but contained at least 50! :)

  7. Just being with huge extended family. It's tapered and now just my immediate family gets together for holidays. I'm thankful to be included in my younger sister's holiday gatherings.

I try and make some of her recipes, but don't have her magic touch.

  13. The parties my parents threw in our basement...Halloween, Christmas, New Years. I loved the Spanish music, the jokes, the food and drinks...

My parents were a lot of fun in their day. Hell, they're still fun and it's still their day. :)

  19. LYNN, I am willing to guess you aren't "included" as much as "demanded" as an intricate part of your sister's gathering.

Absolutely nothing. Holidays in my family were terrible, they always involved booze and ended up in a shambles. Thankfully, I got away from all that and holidays were made to be fun and family oriented, until my stupid son in law became involved.

    1. HEARTINHAND, you have been royally cheated by not having childhood holiday memories that are good ones. Thankfully you made things better for your family so don't let anyone ruin that for you!

  27. I miss not not being under pressure to do anything. I used to sleep late, loaf around, spying n helping as my Mother planned a yummy meal, watching tv with my dad in the recliner. Going to parades.

Now I get none of that- I seem to just get stressed more if I can't get things done.

    Happy Veteran's Day!
Hope your internet has been better-
Mine is slow n tough too.

  30. Nothing. Not one good memory. My sister and I sometimes talk about that. We came from a weird, dysfunctional family but at least we broke the cycle with our own children.
