HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY

About 1/4 of their garden.
Might have ripe tomatoes today!
This is the 6th year our neighbors have used our property for the biggest part of their annual garden.  The beauty of allowing them to use our land is reaping benefits in the form of fresh produce. Already they have provided me with yellow squash, zucchini, onions, cucumbers and swiss chard.

They are able to grow some of the finest cantaloupe you could ever taste and this year they have also added watermelon to their crop.  It looks like it is going to do well.

My visit to the garden yesterday gave hope that today or tomorrow we might see a ripe tomato or two.  There is not better fruit than a fresh homegrown tomato!  I am drooling already.

  1. That's so neat that you have a community collaboration like that. Fresh tomatoes are the best. I love a drippy tomato sandwich - can't wait!

  2. It will be a while before I get fresh produce from my own little garden, but you have me drooling now as well.

    I am glad for you.
For the first time this early in the season, i harvest 3 yellow cherry tomatoes, but you got the best of the deal!

  6. Brilliant use of land. You get to enjoy the beauty of growth plus a full pantry and no weeding or fighting bugs.
Aren't home grown cantaloupes just the best? Lucky you.

That makes me want to create a garden in my back yard.

  8. I hear you! There is nothing better than fresh fruit or veggies. Your haul sounds yummy.

We don't have a big garden in our yard, but this year we have pineapples, cherry tomatoes, grapes, and plantains producing for us.

  9. The garden looks wonderful, and to have fresh vegetables like that is special. I agree with you about fresh tomatoes! I remember having them at my grandmother's...making a tomato sandwich on white bread with mayonnaise.

By the way, thanks for mentioning the word verification. I thought that I had removed that. I've had spammers. That's why I went to comment moderation, but I did think that I had removed the other. I think it's taken care of now.

  10. Joy and bliss. And nothing beats a home grown tomato. Except that it makes it clear that the ones I buy in the shops the rest of the year are made of plastic.

  12. Lucky you! Other folks doing the work- So far along compared to mine!

But I do have one "bush" type tomato plant, with one light green fruit to wait for already- Now If I could only get a fist-full of beans n peas which are 1-foot tall now. Beets, carrots, radishes, n squash have just begun sprouting. Herbs are the only ready thing at this point.

  15. Your growing season seems to be quite a bit farther ahead than ours. We built/bought large planters for our first foray at gardening this year and it's turning out lovely. Im hoping for enough tomatoes to make a batch of green tomato chow - Lloyd's favorite pickle.

  16. The perks of being a happy landlord is a beautiful thing. Nothing like having your own personal farmer's market.
