Question Of The Week 6-9-14

"Is absence of evidence, evidence of absence?"
ARE WE ALONE IN THE UNIVERSE?

Got this question from BQO

  1. No, just because we don't see the heavenly realm, doesn't cause it not to exist.

  2. My guess would be that we are not alone.

    Very profound comment.

Mine too, especially when we ponder the vastness of the universe as if we could even begin to comprehend.

    Interesting concept.

  5. I personally think that we have really no clue just how not alone we are.

  6. Almost certainly not. Which is yet another reason for us to behave like responsible citizens.

  7. Nooooo.... I really don't think we're the only ones alive in the universe.

  8. I definitely think we're not alone. I wonder if they are wondering about us?

    Thanks for commenting.

My dad always told me to search for answers though I would never have them all in this lifetime. I so hope that one day the universe will become known to me.

    Elephant's Child
    Wow, excellent statement!

    Kay
I'm with you and really don't understand how anyone can believe we are.

    Lynn
“They” may be so advanced that they don't have to give us a second thought.

  10. We are not alone. We just haven't mingled yet.

  11. Mathematically the odds are in our favor that we are not alone.

I saw a UFO in the early 50s so I am open minded about it.

  15. I really don't know but I suspect that we aren't alone. They are just more discreet about appearing in public. Aside from Elvis, who has only been employed by them for about 37 years, they are a stealth outfit who rarely get caught lurking about (Rob)

  16. I'm pretty darn sure we are not alone, 'cause some of my neighbors are from another place...

  17. No, I believe we're not alone because there are just too many galaxies out there for us to be alone.

  18. I don't think we are alone. It's a bit arrogant of us to believe that we are the only ones that exist in the universe.

  19. I've always thought there must be other life out there someplace. There are too many planets in the universe for ours to be the only one that can support life. I don't know that I'd want to meet any ALFs but I'm pretty sure they're out there, hopefully minding their own business and wondering if we exist.

  20. I don't think we are alone. But then I grew up in New Mexico where it is normal to believe in UFO's.

  21. Having studied astronomy n sciences, plus much Sci-Fi I'm convinced there is a 5% chance of another humanoid species in a similar phase of civilized development in our known universe. Perhaps in Orion's belt would be the closest possible planet of similar phase n conditions in Alpha Centauri's solar system.

  22. Regarding your question on the garter snake. He was just sitting there where I almost stepped on him. It took him a bit of time to get his rear in gear.

  23. I think people from other planets have already visited here. This is the story I heard.

A landing party from the Planet Zirmac came here and asked if we would do a cultural exchange with them so we could learn about each other. We agreed and they talked about all sorts of customs and cultural differences and finally the subject was reproduction.

We asked how they reproduced and they showed us a film of a giant factory and a long conveyer belt. On the belt were baby bodies and as they came along a person on each side would attach arms, legs, eyes, ears etc. until a perfect baby was at the end of the line.

Then they asked how we make babies. We got a couple who were willing and they began to make love and the Zirmakians laughed and laughed as they watched. We asked,"What is so funny about the way we make babies?"

They shouted,"That's how we make cars!"

  24. It sometimes feels as though we are. It is sooooooo far to the nearest possible life-bearing planet, that for most practical purposes we are on our own. But somewhere out there, far far away, there is almost certainly somebody else. I do wonder about them.

  25. I would say, nope. Some people are quite clever ;)

    Or maybe we have:)

If you say it is so, it is so.

My grandson and I saw one in 2003. No one would believe is. We did report our sightings.

    Lee
    lol! Know the feeling.

    Rob and Monica
Rob, you are a hoot. I knew there was more to the Elvis sightings. Lol

    Brighid
Got some of those neighbors too. Mine just got busted for a meth lab. No wonder I though they were aliens.

    cube
    Absolutely!

    LL Cool Joe
Arrogant is right, but that is what so many of us are. Why would we not want to believe there were others in the universe?

    Pat MacKenzie
It would be such a joy for this to be authenticated in my lifetime.

    Snaggle Tooth
You are way ahead of me.

    Tabor
Thanks for letting me know. I was curious.

    Nancy
Whew, I would not want to give birth to a car! My friend, as usual, you are on target for fun.

    Kerry
And for most practical purposes they too are on their own.

Don't most of them volunteer for your organization?
