THE CANDY MAN WOULD

Our courtship was perfect. Filled with flowers, jewelry, cards, and candy. Always candy.
As the years went by, the other gifts may have fallen by the wayside but never the candy
because we both had a passion for chocolate. It was the gift we could give each other on
any occasion and know it would be hit.

We both loved the kind of boxed chocolates that came with a map showing what was where.
Ron could easily grab all the coconut pieces without guilt because I could not eat them. He would
relinquish the orange filled ones to me because they were my favorites. We would try to equally divide
the ones filled with nuts and if there was an odd one, he would always leave it for me to have. Cream
filled were a toss up but Ron would always leave that last piece for me (well almost always).

Ron was a “feed the troops first” person. He never took the last of anything. He always made sure
everyone had a full plate before he even considered taking a bite for himself, until it came to chocolate.
That was a different story. If I got in the car and went outside the boundaries of our property and
there was one lonely piece of candy left in the box, it would be gone when I returned home. “Well you
left it here” he would say with a grin, as if that meant I had left it for him.

Who can take a sunrise
Sprinkle it with dew
Cover it with choc'late and a miracle or two
The Candy Man
Oh, the Candy Man can
The Candy Man can
'Cause he mixes it with love
And makes the world taste good

I won't feel too bad eating all of these because they have my name on them:)

  4. The one thing that my partner fight over are sweets (candies). Well not fight but you know what I mean. Unfortunately we tend to like the same ones too. :D

    Enjoy your chocolates Queen Anne!

  5. Such a beautiful post. I hope that a lot of people have the same love like yours and Ron's.

I bought the same box of Cherry Cordials yesterday. My husband loves those. Last year he put them on top of our dresser's mirror and forgot and they got spoiled. I told him that I will not touch them if he leaves them in the fridg.

  6. Perfect relationship when you can joyfully share a box of chocolates. Laughing - my favorite are the dark chocolate orange creams. I pick through my Quality Street chocolates and sneak them all out of there! :)

Chocolate makes the world go round.

I will enjoy them and I do tend to like the dark chocolate more that Ron did. He favored mild chocolate. Yes I know what you mean by "fight". It's a quiet but loving battle isn't it? lol

Can chocolate covered cherries go bad? Yikes! Then I better hurry and eat these:)

Just one of the many ways it was a perfect relationship. Oh I know what you mean about those dark chocolate orange creams. Have you ever dunked orange slice candy in melted chocolate? Talk about a sin!

Sweet and sad or as Olga said, "bittersweet". Yes, I will run around the house after each piece or get on my exercise bike for a few miles. Will that be okay?

Yes, and I did hug that memory tight when I wrote it down. It was more emotional than I realized it would be.

  11. Awww... This is so sweet. Chocolate covered cherries are my mom's favorite candies. She's lucky that neither Art nor I care a whole lot for them. Happily more for her!

Oh yes! You deserve them, Anne!

  14. Very sweet post. My husband is one of those "feed the troops first" guys, too. I have to urge him to eat the last of whatever if I'm full.

Our personal chocolate story takes place early in our relationship. My husband gave me a Whitman Sampler and he ended up eating most of it. From then on, he always owed me another Whitman Sampler.

Life is life a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get... unless it's a Whitman's Sample and you know exactly what everything is.

  24. Aww! That is very sweet. And clearly, they're meant for you, even if they misspelled your name. BTW Mr. RK says the same thing...he eats his chocolate...then he eats mine...then says, "Well, you left it there!"

They help a lot and sometimes they hurt too.

    Aunt Betsy
We both felt blessed to have found each other. It is an exciting story that might someday be told.

    Birdie
My dearest friend made chocolate covered cherries filled with bourbon. She died too young and sadly so did her recipe for the chocolates.

    Kerry
We were. And when people would ask how long we had been married we would always ask them to guess. They would guess forty or fifty years and were shocked to hear 12, 13, 14...
