AIN'T GONNA DO IT

Question Of The Week 9-02-13

What job/career/profession causes you to say: I am so happy I do NOT have that job?

Bean counters unite:)

HAPPY LABOR DAY!!!

  1. It's not Labor day here in the UK!

Honestly I have no idea. I think any profession however enjoyable still requires work.

  2. LL Cool Joe -- I would have to say that Pig Farming would not be a choice for me. Pigs are actually supposed to be clean but the food they eat and the pens the wallow in are disgusting. On Labor Day we are supposed to rest from our labor but most people shop:)

  3. Septic system cleaner. One of the guys that does the ones at work has a good sense of humor & always says, "I deal a lot of sh*t every day!"

  4. ashok -- Thanks for the invite. I only travel by car and tractor:)

Bonnie (BIZ) -- Oh yes, add that one to my list. I guess someone has to do it and that person would definitely have to have a sense of humor.

  5. I couldnt be in the medical/care taking field.
Other folks pain effects me more than I can express with words.
I'd be sick all the time and of no value to those who needed me most.

  6. There have been hail storms around here recently and when I see the roofers working to repair roofs in 90+ degree heat I always think about what a tough job they have.

  7. Garbage collectors. I bow before them. Now that they also have to pick up food garbage (in separate bins), I honor them even more.

  8. Sonny -- I was a hospital volunteer when I was in high school and knew then it would not be a career choice for me.

Jeanie -- Of course. We have all seen those guys and gals (not so many gals) on rooftops and been happy not to be working beside them in the heat.

Talon -- I am pretty sure they are now called "sanitation engineers" not that it makes the job any more enticing.

  9. Right now I am glad to not have most any job. At times I miss working, but I really enjoy not having a schedule anymore.

  10. As a Sales Coordinator I was fine. Later on one of the managers wanted us to call people who did not need the books we sold, I felt like one of those telemarketers who people hated. Then I was glad to be home. Later on I left the job when I found a better one.

  11. How are you doing? How are the chicks?

  12. Still hope you have a great day! sandie

  13. I thought that subject line might be your not writing back about your b.day so I can get it on my calendar ;)

When we were in Japan on a trip years ago, in the department store restroom there was a woman who ran in after every customer and wiped the "seat" - Eastern style toilets.

I felt terrible that anyone would have that as their job. It would be better than pig insemination, though.

  14. anything high up on a building - window washer, construction workers etc... i never could even stomach watching them

  15. I worked three summers at Dole Pineapple Cannery as a trimmer when I was a teenager. I made sure I wouldn't have that job again.

  16. School bus driver.

  17. 2 I can think of. One I've done. Hauling fat hogs to market. They really refuse to load and then once on the truck they really don't want to climb back up and out of there. The whole while hoping they don't die from the heat (and me too) before they get unloaded.
And the smell is the biggest problem.
The other was when our septic slowed down the plumber said he'd have it pumped. I'm glad I missed that episode. I was in town.

  18. Rae – You sure said that sister! I am glad also to be retired.

Munir – Most telemarketers do not like their work. I have yet to hear anyone praise that job. About the chicks...Well, I have lost Faith but still have Hope:) Plus I have ten new Rhode Island Red pullets.

Chatty Crone – It was a great day, thanks. I slept almost all of it away.

Riot Kitty – huh? Did you request my birthday? Oh I could never have a job wiping toilet seats. I guess that would be better however than wiping butts:)

Brite Mist – Oh yes, I am with you there. Cannot watch either so could never work up high.

Kay – Do you like to eat pineapple after all that trimming?

Kerry – If there was a prize, you might just have won it for the worse possible job. The bad thing is bus drivers sometimes end up being the worse possible people because no one else wants the job.

  19. I think being a porta potty cleaner would be the one I would not want to do, yuck!

  20. Anything that has to do with preparing and serving food.

I tried working in a restaurant once.

    Once.

    Actually, twice.

  21. Cliff -- The septic thing scares me the most and I fear something will go wrong here (knock on wood) and I won't have the faintest idea what to do! Do you call a regular plumber or a septic specialist?

Brighid -- Nobody seems pleased to think of doing any job tied to our bodily functions clean up.

G.B. Miller -- My children worked in food service in high school and they came home wearing the odors of the kitchen every day.

  22. Well, I actually do a job that everyone says they couldn't do and that is palliative care. I live my job. It brings me fulfillment and so much joy to be able to be there for people (and their families) in their last days of living.

There are so many jobs I would not want to do. The list is endless.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Birdie -- I could not do that job but so love and respect those who do. Ron and I both loved his caregivers and I wish I could still see them once in a while.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I wouldn't want to be an air traffic controller. Too stressful.

    ReplyDelete
  25. There are the obvious ones like working with septic tanks, etc., but I remember during college when my husband wanted me to change my major from biology to business (what he was studying) and so I took an accounting class.

That was awful for me. Every single problem was about a person opening a company, and these are checks they wrote, so put them into the proper accounts and make it balance in the end. It was pure drudgery... I'd rather have calculus.

If I had to do that every day, I would go insane.

mortician or any job having to do with a morgue.

  27. Daily wage laborers working at a construction site in India carrying head loads of cement, debris, bricks etc and working barefoot 8-10 hours a day in the blazing hot sun with no headgear or sunglasses and being paid a pittance.

  28. Anything that involves insects, reptiles, muck, body waste, extreme temperatures,or danger. Guess I'm just an unadventurous wuss.

    ReplyDelete
  29. My Production Supervisor, who works even more hours than I do! Plus has to kiss serious corporate butt... n answer the phone.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Lynn – It is difficult to understand how anyone could willingly take on such a job as that of air traffic controller. The stress levels there have to be among the highest of any job.

Cube – There you see the reason for my picture as that of a bean counter:)

gigihawaii – But morticians have such funny stories to tell.

    R. Ramanathan – Are you talking about now? The 21st century? Oh my those construction site jobs sound straight out of the dark ages. How can they work barefoot on top of the other horrible conditions?

Pat MacKenzie – I wouldn't say you are unadventurous, I would just say you are very discerning in your choices.

Snaggle Tooth – Who could work more hours than you? It seems like you top everyone in time spent at work.

  31. No, every time I eat a fresh pineapple now I get a psychosomatic bead of sweat on my hair line.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Any job where I would have to kow tow to idiots.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Kay -- You are so funny. A "psychosomatic bead of sweat". Now I've heard of everything.

Pat -- I never worked where there wasn't at least one idiot who had been promoted to a level of total incompetence and let a power trip go to their head wanting everyone to kow tow.

  34. RETAIL RETAIL RETAIL when I go into a store i expect the clerks to ALWAYS be in the best mood possible....and I get upset when they have an attitude when you ask them a question and come up their cash register as if they're doing you a favor...but I always remind myself that I could NEVER do that job...I'd get fired and hired the same day! LOL
