SEVEN vs SEVEN

Say hello to my Granddog Clancy.
Clancy is a pretty big puppy for only Seven months old.
Seven year old Slim suggests to my son that it is time to take Clancy home.  The weekend has worn Slim out.
My son Tandy says they are thinking about leaving.
Slim shows them the door.  Clancy seems a bit sad having loved all the running room at Granny Annie's.
And so they load up and head back to the city.  At the rate Clancy is growing, Tandy might need a bigger truck for their next visit.

Clancy at 1 month, 2 months and 4 months of age.  Yes, Clancy is a Great Dane.

  1. Oh how cute is that? Slim wanting some rest! :) My sister and BIL have the same thing - a lot of property to run around in and their older dog Moby is always ready for niece's much young dog Hank to go.

  2. Perhaps slowly they will become friends. Or not.

  3. Lynn -- You should have seen Clancy follow the tractor while my son mowed the back field. That pup really gets his exercise here.

Pat -- Oh they like each other already, it is just that Clancy has a bit too much energy for Slim. When Slim is through playing she lets Clancy know and isn't very polite about it.

  5. He is very cute in a big sort of way. Slim just needs to assert himself as the boss and whip that big boy into line. One day they will be good pals.

  6. Clancy is very handsome, but I can see why Slim would be a little leery.
We had a Great Dane once...watch out for his tail. :)

  7. Slim is REALLY slim. I would not want to keep up with either of those energy balls. I once worked as an au pair and they had a great Dane who felt that his job was to run his wet nose over my slacks/jeans as I headed out to classes in the morning.

  8. That is one big "puppy" You will have to post pictures of him grown.

  9. Cathy – He doesn't eat as much as I would have guessed...unless he manages to pull down the entire bag of dog food and then he tends to over indulge. At least he does not eat people food and does not beg.

Rae – Good description. “Cute in a big sort of way”. It is just difficult to think of Clancy as a puppy. He is so big you expect him to act like an adult dog. Slim is a senior citizen at seven years of age and she makes it clear she's not up to Clancy's constant pestering.

Jeanie – He is a handsome boy. Since my son's youngest child is a high school senior this year, Clancy is filling his empty nest syndrome. He loves this pup and I don't know what he is going to do as the dog grows and grows. Pretty soon Clancy is going to be able to just step over their fence in the back yard. The tail has already done some work around here. I have to get ready for Clancy's visits just like I did for the grandchildren when they were toddlers.

Tabor – Slim was named right. Every time I take her to the vet he says, “Yep, she's still slim Slim,”. Clancy is pretty slim too. And yes he is a wet nosed drooler. Right now he doesn't shed much which is a good thing. I wonder if he will later on.

  11. Talon -- You got that right. A TON! He does keep us entertained. And his bark is amazing but he is well trained to control it on command.

  12. Very pretty dogs. Two of my grandson's have Great Danes. They are so big and lanky and funny but very loving and faithful. Big dogs need lots of room to run. I'm sure Clancy will enjoy coming to visit you.

  13. Sweet puppies! I think they will bond in time, once the jealousy wears off. :)

  14. We love big dogs. We get an extra $4 per night. But we earn it. They're messy compared to the little ones.

  15. Looks like a fun doggy field trip! What a big dog that will be! I bet Slim feels a bit up-staged!

A carpenter I know had a Great Dane that Carried big hunks of lumber around to gnaw on, but he was very lovable!

  16. Great Danes are gentle giants. Very sweet dogs.

  17. Mountain Mama – You are so right about the “lanky and funny” part. He is such a clutz and thinks that he has hands.

Riot Kitty – Oh they get along okay now, it is just that Slim has to settle Clancy down once in a while. She is still the grand dame.

Cliff – Thanks, now I know to charge my son extra when he wants to board Clancy with me:)

Snaggle Tooth –I am laughing at the image of the dog carrying around big hunks of lumber. Clancy can pick up some of the largest objects for chew toys and we have to keep a close eye on him.

Cube – Gentle giants for sure. But their barks are not gentle sounding at all.

  18. Absolutely. Our Doberman went from 56 pounds to 83 pounds from one year's visit to the other. She is a big, floppy-eared baby until she thinks one of us is in danger, and she turns into a scary mass of teeth and bark. I pity the fool who comes in her way.
