UNUSUAL AND UNRULY

Question Of The Week  5-6-13

Do you have a strange or funny story to tell that involves a pet of yours or of someone you know?

Our old dog Mickey ate an entire birthday cake, a two pound bag of M&Ms and a bottle of 250 Ibuprofen tablets as well as various and asundry leather goods and never got sick.

Our cat Mrs, Tiggy Winkle got locked in a neighbor's shed for two weeks and when they found her and let her out, she came home no worse for the wear.

My dog back in the 1970s loved to eat freshly cooked macaroni. She also loved canned dog food, but not packaged dog food.

  2. I have a million stories about my dogs being unruly.

But the one to share today is about my best friend's cat. Oreo (13 years old) went missing after people were at her house to fix her furnace. It didn't surprise anyone when he went missing. He goes out hunting in the neighborhood, but always came back. After a couple of weeks of fruitless searching, there still was no sign of him. They figured he died.

One day my friend's mom heard noises in the house & they were coming from the basement. They had searched that basement over & over. Oreo was a really fat cat & liked to sleep in between the slats of a pallet. He got himself lodged in a pallet. After two weeks of being missing, he wasn't so fat anymore but really afraid of coming out of there. He probably thought he was in big trouble! He lived another 4 years after that & never left the house.

  3. team work - a cat and a dog and a fresh baked apple pie place high above on a shelf the dog could not reach...we go out and when we come back the pie tin is empty on the floor with crumbs on both of their faces!

  4. gigihawaii -- Did your dog eat the macaroni hot?

Bonnie -- Poor Oreo. Good thing she started out fat!

Brite Mist -- And so you knew the rest of the story. Team work between a dog and a cat...perfect!

  5. We once had a dog that ate a pound of butter. Yeah, he got seriously sick. :)

And I used to have a horse named Gypsy who loved to escape...once she ended up on the local golf course on the 9th green. The golfers just putted around her :) She also once tried to come in the house - got her front hooves in (she was at a set of sliding doors). I miss her.

I always cooled the macaroni in cold water before feeding it to her.

  7. We'd had a new kitchen put in in a previous house, and one of our cats got stuck behind the back of a unit. Totally stuck. We had to break up the cabinet with a mallet to get her out.

Another time my partner shut her tail in the door. She lost 2 inches of it on the floor. Blood everywhere.

Oh and years later my partner killed one of our cats by accident, by knocking it over with the car. :(

I have many stories to tell about our burmese cats. I miss them.

  8. My cat Cleo got closed up in my walk-in closet one day for about 12 hours. The kitten lead me to the closet door and when I opened it, Cleo stalked out and went straight to the kitchen and put her face in her dish. She didn't pee or anything in there either. Or when she got out - she was just hungry. :)

  9. We had 'Annie' (a tiny collie looking dog) when we were first married. We went to Denver to Marilyn's parents house at Christmas time. We took a 2 pound coffee can full of fresh bourbon balls with usj along with the dog. Bourbon balls are uncooked with a substantial amount of bourbon in them. Annie couldn't have weighed 10 pounds and ate all of the balls in the backseat while we drove. We discovered the fact about Kearney Nebraska and she slept very soundly all the rest of the way to Denver. We shook her awake when we got there and she promptly deposited the the whole slurry at my MIL's feet when we got out of the car. It was a fine "Welcome to Denver."

  10. However, this is my best animal story...and it's true. http://cliffmorrow.blogspot.com/2005/04/hanky-panky-on-farm.html

  11. Wow. Do I? Countless. Probably the best one is from my dad, though. Their family cat has carnal knowledge of pillows and my little sister's stuffed animals. My dad said he was traumatized when he found Hello Kitty in the hallway with her skirt up over her head!

  12. One of my older daughter's cats (which I later inherited) was locked in a neighbor's panel van for 2 weeks and survived the ordeal. There was a box of newspapers in the van, and the cat dutifully used it for his waste the whole time.

  13. Talon -- I'll bet the butter did make one sick puppy. Sounds like Gypsy the horse loved you too.

    gigihawaii -- Good to know:)

LL Cool Joe --With your partner around it sounds like pets might be better off without you:(

Lynn -- Was it Cleo's kitten that led you to the closet? I'll bet the kitten was hungry too.

Cliff -- Nice way to impress your MIL. Perhaps your Annie was trying to keep you from being arrested for having an open container of alcohol in your car. Hum, I wonder if those bourbon balls would count?

Riot Kitty -- Now you know where she get's her name "Hello Kitty!" lol

kenju -- My cat survived a two week lock in as well. I wonder how long a cat could actually go without food and water. What a good kitty to use the papers for a litter box.

  14. I hope that Mickey is OK. Cake and Me M are OK, but Ibuprofin?
Our Dog, Indy would go an put his Mark on our neighbourhood lawns as he went to look for our son who was away at college.

  15. I cannot not believe the DGP didn't get sick off all those ibuprofen? And even more strange why it ate them ALL!! Lol

  16. Sorry to say we haven't had any pets in our family for a long, long time.

I remember dog sitting once though and turned on the vacuum cleaner. Shelton (Sheltie) went bonkers running and peeing in every room. Sigh...

  17. Many, many, many years ago, we had a very small dog. Can't remember what the name of him was, but he was an energetic litte pup.

Anyways, we were having an outdoor lunch one Saturday and I filled my plate full of food and went back inside the house. I put the plate on the floor (with the intent of watching the ballgame) and went back outside to get something to drink.

Came back in to find my plate thoroughly cleaned by the dog.

I chased the dog back outside, got the hose and gave the little bugger an impromptu three minute bath.

  18. Munir -- Mickey was two years old at the time and lived another 9 years after those incidents. They did take place at different times but all the chocolate and medicine should have done him in.

Brown English Muffin -- Mickey ate the ibuprofen because they were in my purse. Of all the things that were in there, why he picked that bottle of pills will forever be a mystery. DGP(?)

Kay -- Oh I hate it when that happens. Same dog Mickey used to pee every time someone came in our front door.

    G. B. Miller -- Boy, this reminds me of a story about our good dog Slim. She (usually) does not eat food unless it is given to her. Once I left an open trash container out in the kitchen with scraped chicken bones on the top in easy reach. I forgot to take it out and Slim never touched it, though it had to be tempting. However Ron was eating a cinnamon bun in the den and had a fall. When he fell, he knocked over his plate and while he lay helpless on the floor, instead of coming to get me, Slim grabbed the cinnamon bun and ran off in the corner to eat it.

  19. My daughter's cat, Mickey, is an amazing hunter and always brings her trophies home to Sara. She started with dragonflies when she was young and quickly graduated to mice and birds. Most of her trophies were still alive when she presented them to my daughter, but one day she appeared with an almost unidentifiable flat, stiff, roadkill squirrel. She seemed inordinately proud of this 'catch', as if she was responsible for its condition.

  20. We had a lovely Border line Collie named Jock who was a character and whilst walking down his avenue he saw a glamorous blonde with a sport's car and the passenger door open.
Naturally Jock got in and sat on the passenger seat.

  21. Our beloved German Shepherd, Dax, used to go on or near anything she found objective, i.e., anything that we did without including her. Basketball hoop, pool, etc.

  22. My cat Turtle used to like to eat the inside fluffy part of plain donuts.

Old Midnight used to love french fries. Mischief learned from her to eat them too! (N beg for them of course)
    Mischief also likes cooked broccoli.

My childhood dog, Champ (boxer), Once ate a chocolate cake, a cherry pie, n dragged a turkey carcass behind the couch on one Thanksgiving week-end (all from the countertop).

  24. Oh gosh - it's fun reading everyone's stories! Although LL Cool Joe's about the tail amputation left me feeling a little nauseous. 0_o

I once knew a cat who swallowed an entire scented dryer sheet, and eventually passed it into his litter box. He was not very smart, that one, but he was such a love! Shadow was a grey tabby cat, and is now long gone.
