THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY

Our Easter Sunday was only eventful due to a trip to the ER.  Saturday afternoon the suffering began.  My throat was sore and a cough was developing.  Sleeplessness followed and by noon Sunday the throat pain was literally unbearable.  While it seemed to be strep, I was not running a fever so that was doubtful.  As crazy as it seemed, the emergency room was the only hope imaginable for me to get some immediate relief.  WRONG!

Strep was quickly ruled out.  The final diagnosis was an upper respiratory infection that could be viral or could be bacterial but either way there was nothing to do but drink lots of fluids and try taking an antibiotic to see if it would help and let it run it's course.  That was the agony part of my story.

A local store was having an after-Easter sale on their purses.  There was a red purse that I coveted and  planned to go back early Monday to buy it before anyone else did.  Of course it had never dawned on me that the Monday after Easter would find me totally incapacitated.

Yesterday I was feeling somewhat improved so Ron agreed to drive me to the store.  On the way we ran into some neighbors who were surprised to see us out and about.  Ron told them I had to go get a new purse.  The neighbor lady said, "Oh I just bought a red purse!".  As we drove away Ron mumbled something about, "Wouldn't it be funny if she bought your purse?" No, not funny.  Not funny at all!

Much to my relief (the ecstasy part of my story) we arrived at the shop and they still had my purse.  Sadly the mark down was only 15% and I had hoped for 50% but I bought it anyway.  It is amazing how quickly the healing has come to my poor sickly body since buying the purse. If we had known the healing powers, we could have saved a trip to the ER.

The healing purse!  (Those are little strips of rhinestones down the front.)

  2. Lovely purse. I need to get rid of all of my purses and start over again!! I have been that sick and it is no fun. I usually catch something from my grandkids. Love em anyway.

  3. Nancy -- Actually we're having a siblings gathering tonight at the All-You-Can-Eat King Crab casino. I can't see me eating much but I'll sit quietly and hold my purse. Hey, when are you doing another story? Also, how are you feeling?

Tabor -- It is a very difficult thing for me to let a purse go. If they get a hole in them or show exceptional wear, I will throw then away, but otherwise they are my passion. My grandkids had not been here in a while but my sister visited with two of her young grandchildren. Hum, I wonder? LOL
Good question on your blog today. I wonder where others will say they would like to live.

  4. Love the purse. I think I'll try buying a new purse before I head to the ER next time. Worked out well for you, lol. Glad you're feeling better, sorry you're gonna miss out on some crab.

  7. I'm glad your neighbor didn't get your purse. Just think how miserable you would've felt if she had.

Thanks to you, I am going to remember shopping therapy the next time I get sick ;-)

  8. Bonnie -- Glad you like my new purse. Who knows about that shopping before ER trip. It could really catch on and save the world! Still laughing at your fun at the Renaissance Festival and "once a knight is not enough"...

Changes in the wind -- This has been a crazy illness but hopefully I will stay on the mend. Love your "J" word and never dreamed Jardiniere could have three such diverse meanings.

Tabor -- Thanks for coming back to say that. I'm enjoying the marvelous work of the many talented artists and love sharing it.

Cube -- I would have had to find some way to bargain for it with my neighbor. It was just that serious. Too bad about the student cartoonist getting fired from her job. She learned the hard way that freedom of speech is only for a select few.

  10. Your purse reminds me of a story about a red leather tote (Emilie M brand) that my husband's great aunt offered to whomever wanted it. My youngest daughter, who has an eye for fashion, was up like a shot. She loves it.

  11. Lynn -- Thanks. I'm afraid the photos don't do justice to my purse. It could have been one of your "J" words because it is Jeweled too...oh, and so is justice. Too bad I'm not doing the A-Z blogging. LOL You are doing a great job! Yes, I'm better but still dragging a bit more than I should be.

  12. Cube -- Good for your daughter. I would have gone for it also. Now about those picnic pants!!! OMG! What kind of fashion statement do those make? I laughed so hard.

  16. Dear Annie ~ I love your purse like everyone else and I am so glad you are feeling a little better. I hope you feel better still very soon.
Sorry to be so slow replying, have had strep throat and bad earache. I sleep on an heated heat pad for relief. My brother fixed the under-lining for us. Glad you enjoyed the stories and jokes. Take great care my friend, Love, Merle.

  17. Hi Annie,

I'm sure you will be the main attraction at the All-you-can-eat Casino with all your slot nickles tucked inside that gorgeous rhinestone studded purse.

I have a new story ready to send Ronni this week. Thank you for asking. I am also feeling better and looking forward to you telling us stories about Slim and the other animals who live with you,and some who don't. (I still like to hear about our Jack.)

  19. I think this is where I'm supposed to say someting like..."It's just darling"... so here goes. "The purse is darling and I can see why we're all a twitter."
Sorry to hear about the tickle in the throat. (:)) Really, sorry it screwed up the weekend.

  20. I've had those painful throat ailments a few times- Sorry you had to spend your Easter thay way- If only the purse came loaded with cash for more shopping therapy!

  21. Riot Kitty -- Don't know if I deserve a treat but glad that you think so at least. I'm taking it for whatever reason. LOL

Merle -- Sounds like you are suffering much the same was I am but you have an actual diagnosis and a timeline for when to expect recovery. Mine just keeps fooling me into a false sense of security then hits again.

Nancy -- Can't wait to see the new story. I'm pretty much in the habit of checking the Elder Storytelling Place every day now. Lots of good writers but I seem to favor you the most:) You'll be happy to know I visited Jack Bauer last week and he is definitely a happy Cock Of The Walk. Plus they bought over a hundred new girls for his harem so maybe he can share with a couple of the other fellows.

Chatty Crone -- Just as I start to believe that I am on the mend, the stitches begin to fall out (sewing analogy only, no actual stitches) and I have to start over. Thanks for your concern.

Cliff -- Wish you would put that very appropriate response on a video for YouTube.

Snaggle Tooth -- So you too believe I need "shopping therapy"? Ron will be glad to know he is not alone in that theory. LOL Come on, what's a new purse or two or three or four....?

  22. Hello Annie
Love the red handbag - it would go very well with my hat when I meet my Red Hat friends lol
Hope you are feeling much better now - sore throats must be a worldwide ailment at the moment as my dh has just finished a course of antibiotics for his very inflammed throat. He was sick enought to cancel golf on two days last week - thats sick!

  23. Cathy -- Of course the Red Hat Society ladies would be on the lookout or my new purse. I'd best remember to hide it from you guys! LOL We did not get to go to the crab-leg fest because I wasn't 100% plus my brother and sil got sick too. You're right, it's going around all over the world.

You are right about superstitious people being Irish. It never dawned on me, but that must be where I get it. My Irish paternal grandfather taught me ALL the no-no's.

  24. Just wrong to be sick on Easter! But it's good that you thought of the red purse therapy.

  27. Oh my! That's a really posh bag. Love it to bits. No wonder you feel a bit better. Maybe the doctors & hospitals should give them out. Probably be better than all those medicines.
