#13 NO SHORT TO A LONG STORY

This is post number 13 in the marathon.

Nancy Leitz has encouraged me with another blog post idea.  She suggested that I post a link to a story I wrote about my father for The Elder Storytelling Place in June, 2008.

LITTLE OWEN

By Granny Annie of Fools Rush In

Grandpa and Grandma raised one child. This child was a miracle. His name was Owen.

When Grandma was pregnant with my father, she says she went into a field and got down on her knees and bargained with God. She promised God if He would let this child live, she would dedicate the infant to the service of the Lord. She had lost eight babies, most from stillbirths in the eighth month of pregnancy.

CLICK THE TITLE LINE LITTLE OWEN TO READ THE REST OF THE STORY WHEN YOU HAVE TIME.  IT'S A LONG ONE.

  2. Tabor -- Thank you so much. I still didn't tell all the stuff but had to condense it to meet the guidelines for story length. Do you ever write for The Elder Storytelling Place? I haven't in a long time. I am going to think some more about your 6 degrees of separation post. Meanwhile I did get an autographed picture from Chill Wills once in Muskogee, OK. He was not only a famous actor in his day, he was the voice of Frances the Talking Mule.

  4. What a lovely story. Your dad really was a miracle child. I can't imagine the heartache his mother went through losing so many babies. She deserved this one very special one.

  5. Annie,

I thought this wonderful and loving story about your Dad would make an interesting blog post for your readers and I think I was right.

I had a wonderful Dad,too, which is what attracted me to your story.

  8. sonny -- Thanks a million!

Pat MacKenzie -- My grandmother was a cheery, quiet soul and rarely commented to us on life lessons. She simply taught by example. But once she did speak seriously to me and to my sister and say how thankful she was for the invention of the birth control pill and the legalization of contraceptives because we would never have to know the horror of one pregnancy after another knowing the child would most likely not survive. Some might argue that then she never would have had my dad, but somehow I have faith that he would have gotten into all our lives one way or another.

Nancy -- Have you written about your dad? Is there a story on TESTP about him? I would love to know about him too.

Riot Kitty -- None of us will ever know the depths of her pain at losing one child after another and in the 8th month of her pregnancies.

Cliff -- Yep, pretty good evidence, huh?
