UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE OF FARTING

I watched a very good movie yesterday called MAO'S LAST DANCER.  It was a drama based on the autobiography by Li Cunxin.

At the age of 11, Li was plucked from a poor Chinese village by Madame Mao's cultural delegates and taken to Beijing to study ballet.

One particular scene in the movie struck me.  Poor Li was crying loudly at bedtime because he was missing his family.  All of the children were threatened with punishment by their caretaker if the crying did not stop. The other boys were trying to cheer Li up and finally one of them stood in front of him and farted loudly.  All the boys started laughing, even Li, and the crying was over.

Why is it that such a gross act brings such laughter to boys and men all around the world?   (Okay I laughed too.)

I do recommend this movie if you're looking for a good PG 13.

  3. I am the odd one out here. I have rarely found bathroom humor funny and farting is just smelly gas to me. Now, pratfalls, if no one is seriously hurt can bring a chuckle. (I hated "Bridesmaids"...all the bathroom humor made it the worst movie ever for me.

  5. Changes in the wind – I have to admit that is is a strange title and will attract some attention. Glad you approve.

LL Cool Joe – Yes we do have some girls in the family that can keep up with or even out do some of the boys. I don’t mind a belching contest but hate farting contests.

Sonny – Oh yes, the “green haze of death”. Why are men so proud of such an accomplishment? It does mark their territory for sure.

Tabor – The movie Dumb and Dumber with its bathroom humor was one that totally shocked me. I can get so embarrassed by such theatre. I haven't seen or heard of Bridesmaids.

  6. I'd like to answer your question,"Why is it that such a gross act brings such laughter to boys and men all around the world?" but the truth is I don't know. I was on the golf course the other day and one of the guys in our group passed gas just as I was ready to tee off. I had to stop because I was laughing.

  7. I don't find farts funny per se, but I do like that my friends' toddler calls them "burps from my bum".

  8. The timimng of loud methane erruptions can certainly bring much needed comic relief, n cramp relief as well- even if we're taught to hide it as much as possible to remain socially acceptable our whole lives!
Leave it to males to count a natural function as an accomplishment to get back at the women who can get pregnant...

  11. I live in Houston and was fortunate enough to see Li Cunxin dance. He was amazing! My dad was ill when the movie came out, so I didn't see it. Thanks for reminding me to put this on my Netflix account.

  12. I can't explain male behavior, but my dogs are female and their farts are among the nastiest I've ever smelled. They can gas you out of the room.

  13. Ralph – Always love your honesty:) I can just picture all the goofy golfers laughing over this simple bodily function.

Sparkling Red – “burps from my bum” hysterical! That is one that will catch on.

Snaggle Tooth – They say that these “methane eruptions” are destroying the ozone layer. At least cattle flatulence is hyped as a cause so human flatulence has to play a big role also. Pregnant women can definitely take care of themselves in the gas department!

    Lynn – Isn’t it? LOL!

Chatty Crone – Huh? What’s out? The odor? LOL

Susan Adcox – Cannot believe you saw Li Cunxin dance in person. That had to be amazing. Yes, put the movie on your Netflix list for sure.

cube – Well, I wouldn’t want Slim, our female dog, to know I’m talking about her, but she can clear a room as well as any male. LOL
