QUESTION OF THE WEEK 8-22-11

How do you feel about putting bumper stickers or other decals/emblems on your car to express your politics, religion or sense of humor?

(The only items we stick on our vehicles are permit items like a military base permit, triple A sticker and pikepass, Oh and we have one front plate that reads US Navy and one that reads Senior Chief.)

  1. I don't see too many of those around my neck of the woods anymore. However, the ones that I do see are of the peace-nik or Puerto Rican heritage persuasion. Very few are anything else.

The GWB sticker of "He's not president, I didn't vote for him" was popular for a while.

As for me, I don't do bumper stickers of any kind on my car. Mostly because, right or wrong, I'm not thrilled abut my car possibly being vandalized.

  2. No I don't have any bumper stickers either, I might have done in my youth expressing my taste in music, maybe, but nowadays I think that's pretty obvious from the way I dress anyway. D

  3. I hate them. I have one sticker on my car and it is required.

  4. Bumper stickers on the new plastic bumpers on all cars will be ruined by their application. You could, with a great deal of effort, get them off of metal, chromed, bumpers but not plastic.

I would shoot the guy or gal who sticks one on mine and sue the company whose name is on it.

Honestly. I think they are against the law here.

  5. G -- Thank you for stopping by my blog and commenting. I'm with you on the fear of vandalism if someone doesn't like a bumper sticker. Help me pick one of your blogs to follow. I never know when someone has several. Thanks.

LL Cool Joe -- Yep, everyone can guess by your form of expression in outfits!

kenju -- I hate them on my vehicle but I do get a kick out of reading some when we travel.

Abraham Lincoln -- We have a local guy who drives a huge van and it is covered with stickers and flags and, believe it or not, so is his HOUSE! This is a very small town and we don't have any ordinances against such things.

  6. I don't have any on my cars, but I do admit that I sometimes reads them on others cars. Loved the Shakespear! ~ j///b

  7. Funny if it's something that I strongly disagree with I usually want to see what the person looks like....then I back off and change lanes!!

  8. No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Never. I get distracted reading stickers. This ADD driver becomes a hazard when she reads anything other than road signs....and even then...well that's for another post :)

  9. LZ Blogger -- Just think how your vehicle would look if you had a bumper sticker from every place you have visited!

Brown English Muffin -- You're so right about wanting to catch a glimpse of some people who have crazy or controversial bumper stickers on their cars.

Changes in the wind -- Don't get carried away with your response. LOL

Always Nesting -- Such a valid point. I am definitely one of those who must never take my eyes off the road when I'm driving...just ask my husband. LOL It is sure great to see you back by the way.

  11. I just have stickers on my windows for Stone Mountain parking pass and another parking sticker for the condo complex I live in. No bumper stickers for me - too hard to get off and I don't feel the need to advertise my views on politics or religion.

Although I did see one that made me laugh that said, "I hope God isn't too picky." :)

p.s. My word verification is "devout"

  12. No stickers on my car...always worried that it would trash the paint. Now our old vw bus is a different story. We got stickers all over the back end.

  13. I have seen the mystery spot sticker way too many times in Bangalore,India...the guys who travel to Bay area visit mystery spot and buy some & paste on the cars..In London, I haven't seen any...

  14. I see no reason to trumpet my opinions to a bunch of strangers. People in Toronto have enough road rage without getting into bumper-based political statements.

  15. Lynn -- Great bumper sticker slogan and love your word verification. It is always fun to get a real word and one that is pertinent to the comment.

Dani -- I am pretty sure that is the law for vw buses to be covered in bumper stickers.

Chintan -- Thank for visiting. I took a quick peek at your blog and must tell you that I don't feel sympathy for your husband and his sympathy pains:) Why is the Mystery Spot in New Mexico so popular in the places you named? I had to google it to find out what it was about. Believe I actually went there as a kid but you can be sure my parents would never buy souvenirs.

Sparkling Red -- I thought trumpeting your opinion was one of you favorite things:)

  16. I have to confess that some stickers on other cars have made me laugh - like the one that read, "Honk if you're horny" or the old "If you can read this you're driving too close." We don't have stickers on any of our cars. There is a car here in town that is covered in hand prints of the owner's kids - I mean covered from bumper to bumper in all wild colors. Definitely makes it easy to spot in a parking lot :)

  17. I don't have any either. If I had anything, it would be a decal for a sports team(s).

  18. They - whoever they is - say if you have more than one or two - it shows psychological problems! teehee

  19. I don't have any bumper stickers on my car. The only time I have been tempted was by one of Hello Kitty...and Mr. RK promptly told me he'd never drive my car again if I got that one!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I love reading them on other people' cars but have never, and will never, put one on mine. It's too much like graffiti.

  21. I've had some bumper stickers n decals (I remember dolphins) on old cars when I had the kids riding along, n even a unicorn plate when only issued one- But Little Truck is almost naked except for the town dump/beach sticker!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I used to have a "Cape Cod Canal Tunnel pass" which was to confuse tourists into believing there was another way to get out of the Bridge traffic!
It's Still a popular sticker of locals here.

  23. We had a National Trust one once.

  24. Dear Annie ~~ I have no car but when I did I must admit I had a sticker that said,"Don't worry, Be happy."
Sorry to let the team down.
Thanks for your comments and I hadn't called my walker "trolley" before but it seems to fit well.
I am glad you enjoyed the jokes, the talking wine and talking toilet.
Glad that they helped start your day
well. Take care, my friend, Love, Merle.

  25. I only have my yearly sticker from the county.. I have lots of thoughts I'd like to share but via stickers on my car, nooooooo.. giggle.

    good question, this was fun.

  26. Talon – I cannot imagine a car covered in colorful handprints. Not sure I would like that parked on my street if we still lived in town but I might love it.??

Beverly – Yes we see a zillion bumper stickers around her for OU and OSU. It’s about half and half and talk about some serious differences of opinions. LOL

Chatty Crone – Does the “tee hee” mean you have more than one or two on your vehicle?

Riot Kitty – So happy Mr.RK is able to lay down the law once in a while.

Pat MacKenzie – Never thought of that but I guess it is a lot like graffiti.

Snaggle Tooth – That Cape Cod Tunnel pass sounds like a pretty good trick to pull on tourists.

Pat – Hum? What is National Trust?

Merle – No car is a pretty goof reason not to have any bumper stickers unless you wanted to stick them on your house. LOL

Sonny – Once in a while we all see a bumper sticker that so aptly expresses our own feeling we might pause and ponder having one like it. Glad you liked the question.

To everyone -- Thanks for the responses. I am surprised that the majority does not have even one bumper sticker. So, why do we see so many?

  27. We have no stickers but often read one and say "I want one of those."
Our church was (sarcastically) thinking of having some made, "I'm Proud to be a Baptist" to place on the bumpers of of the pesky Lutherans who use our parking lot on occassion. We've even thought of holding church 30 minutes before them so they can't do that.(all good natured stuff I might add)

  28. Cliff -- It sounds like you guys have some fun churches in Nebraska:)
