QUESTION OF THE WEEK 8-22-11
How do you feel about putting bumper stickers or other decals/emblems on your car to express your politics, religion or sense of humor?
(The only items we stick on our vehicles are permit items like a military base permit, triple A sticker and pikepass, Oh and we have one front plate that reads US Navy and one that reads Senior Chief.)

I don't see too many of those around my neck of the woods anymore. However, the ones that I do see are of the peace-nik or Puerto Rican heritage persuasion. Very few are anything else.
ReplyDeleteThe GWB sticker of "He's not president, I didn't vote for him" was popular for a while.
As for me, I don't do bumper stickers of any kind on my car. Mostly because, right or wrong, I'm not thrilled abut my car possibly being vandalized.
No I don't have any bumper stickers either, I might have done in my youth expressing my taste in music, maybe, but nowadays I think that's pretty obvious from the way I dress anyway. D

ReplyDeleteBumper stickers on the new plastic bumpers on all cars will be ruined by their application. You could, with a great deal of effort, get them off of metal, chromed, bumpers but not plastic.
ReplyDeleteI would shoot the guy or gal who sticks one on mine and sue the company whose name is on it.
Honestly. I think they are against the law here.

kenju -- I hate them on my vehicle but I do get a kick out of reading some when we travel.
Abraham Lincoln -- We have a local guy who drives a huge van and it is covered with stickers and flags and, believe it or not, so is his HOUSE! This is a very small town and we don't have any ordinances against such things.
I don't have any on my cars, but I do admit that I sometimes reads them on others cars. Loved the Shakespear! ~ j///b

ReplyDeleteNo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Never. I get distracted reading stickers. This ADD driver becomes a hazard when she reads anything other than road signs....and even then...well that's for another post :)

ReplyDeleteI just have stickers on my windows for Stone Mountain parking pass and another parking sticker for the condo complex I live in. No bumper stickers for me - too hard to get off and I don't feel the need to advertise my views on politics or religion.

No stickers on my car...always worried that it would trash the paint. Now our old vw bus is a different story. We got stickers all over the back end.
ReplyDeleteI have seen the mystery spot sticker way too many times in Bangalore,India...the guys who travel to Bay area visit mystery spot and buy some & paste on the cars..In London, I haven't seen any...

I took a quick peek at your blog and must tell you that I don't feel sympathy for your husband and his sympathy pains:) Why is the Mystery Spot in New Mexico so popular in the places you named? I had to google it to find out what it was about. Believe I actually went there as a kid but you can be sure my parents would never buy souvenirs.

I have to confess that some stickers on other cars have made me laugh - like the one that read, "Honk if you're horny" or the old "If you can read this you're driving too close." We don't have stickers on any of our cars. There is a car here in town that is covered in hand prints of the owner's kids - I mean covered from bumper to bumper in all wild colors. Definitely makes it easy to spot in a parking lot :)

ReplyDeleteI've had some bumper stickers n decals (I remember dolphins) on old cars when I had the kids riding along, n even a unicorn plate when only issued one- But Little Truck is almost naked except for the town dump/beach sticker!

To everyone -- Thanks for the responses. I am surprised that the majority does not have even one bumper sticker. So, why do we see so many?
We have no stickers but often read one and say "I want one of those."
ReplyDeleteOur church was (sarcastically) thinking of having some made, "I'm Proud to be a Baptist" to place on the bumpers of of the pesky Lutherans who use our parking lot on occassion. We've even thought of holding church 30 minutes before them so they can't do that.(all good natured stuff I might add)
