When you come to a fork in the road, do you take the "road less traveled" or the high traffic road?
(And has such a choice made a monumental difference in your life?)

At first I thought I'd have to stew on this one. Then it came to me. We made the choice that I would stay home with our children as they grew. It wasn't an easy road but when I look at my kids and the people and students they have become I know it made the difference for us.

I've always been one to travel the paths that are sort of peeking out and enticing. I wish sometimes you could do a side-by-side comparison of your life to see what might have happened if you took the busy roads...but I have to say I'm delighted with where my paths have converged and merged throughout my life.
ReplyDeleteI like taking the road less traveled now and wish I had always done that, but you can't go back. If I could, I'd have stayed away from that high traffic road.

Talon -- I have faced the fork-in-the-road decision many times and usually took the road less traveled. Some choices were bad, others good, yet all have resulted in the family and friends around me today so I can have no regrets. Yes it would be interesting to see where other choices might have led us.
Lynn -- The road less traveled seems quiet and safe while that high traffic road is usually a bit dangerous don't you think?
I seem to perpetually end up on the less travelled road, even when I was aiming for the main one.

ReplyDeleteHate to admit it, but I don't really understand the question. Per my dad, I used to go straight for the rock in the middle of the river and bang my head against it, but I've learned to go around the rock more as I've gotten older.
ReplyDeleteI've taken both the busy road and the quiet one and since all decisions have led me to where I am now, I have no complaints. Sometimes its just a matter of going with your gut instincts and not overthinking every decision. I'm happy with where I am. At my age now though I think I'll take the easy road whenever there's a choice!
ReplyDeleteI first read that poem so long ago, n listened! I always take the less traveled route. I detest crowds unless I'm on stage... That's why I don't mind this place in the off-season.

Granny Annie...this is a difficult question to answer as it depends in what vein you are speaking...physical, spiritual, while traveling and etc.

Riot Kitty – I’m pretty sure your dad was correct. I can just see you butting your head against the rock demanding that it move so your path would be clear.
Pat MacKenzie – Yep, not over thinking is the best way to go. We tend to end up with more problems when we try to avoid those gut instincts.
Snaggle Tooth – How can we be included in the crowd when you are on stage and why would you be on stage? Celebrity in our midst?
Changes in the wind – Only you would try to make some rhyme or reason out of the question. Guess it could be whatever you wanted it to be. Pick the vein you believe is spoken:)
Pheromone Girl – Such a funny answer!!! Reminds me of a time my parents let my sister drive the car and she was preoccupied watching the boys in the car ahead of us so when they pulled off the road she followed them off the road. My dad just about had a cow (or should I have said monkey?) LOL

I'm a musician, have acted in plays, n given speeches on stage. I've even been on local tv a couple times years ago.
