QUESTION OF THE WEEK 08-08-11

If you HAD to watch the same movie once a week for the rest of your life what movie would you pick?

(Give this some thought before you answer. It is about more than your favorite movie, it is about what movie you could tolerate that much and never grow tired of. I believe my pick would be THE COWBOYS with John Wayne)

  1. Interesting question .
after some thought, I'd have to say I'd watch the Godfather. It would constantly remind me of something vitally important on many levels, and what is that you may ask? its this ~whatever happens::
" Its the price we pay, for the Life we Chose"..

  2. GOOD answer, Sonny.

I hate watching the same movie twice (usually) so I hope that never happens. If I had to choose, I suppose it would be something I found really funny, and it's too early to think about that!

  3. sonny -- Yea sonny. My goddaughter's name is listed in the credits of the Godfather remakes! You could see it over and over:)

kenju -- I warned you that it would take a lot of thought. I debated among several including STEEL MAGNOLIAS, GONE WITH THE WIND, URBAN COWBOY, and GREASE but I would easily tire of those after a few times. THE COWBOYS I could never tire of. Ron's choice would be easy, DENNIS THE MENACE with Walter Matthau and if he could pick television shows, he would pick THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES. (For some reason he can watch that show daily!)

  4. Very hard choice, but I love the scenery in Out of Africa and could watch that plane ride with Meryl Streep and Robert Redford many times.

  5. Until this past year, I think I would have said "The Shawshank Redemption." Now I believe it would be "The King's Speech."

  6. Tabor -- Oh yes OUT OF AFRICA...how could I forget that. Just the scenery alone could entertain me weekly.

Beverly -- I liked SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION but couldn't watch it every week. And believe it or not, I did not care for THE KINGS SPEECH. I think I'm the only person in the world that was disappointed in it.

  7. Oh Ganny Annie...I think I would hang myself no matter what I picked:)

  8. This might sound flighty but I could watch Mama Mia! every week. It's not a deep or thought provoking movie with a life lesson to be learned, but if I had to watch the same movie every week I'd want it to be one that makes me feel happy. And Mama Mia! does that. It always lifts my mood and makes me sing along.

  9. Changes in the wind -- What? Watching one movie once a week would make you hang yourself? Hope you never have to then. LOL

Pat MacKenzie -- I can see how a musical would inspire. I could probably watch MY FAIR LADY over and over. I don't think I've seen Mama Mia but I do love Meryl Streep.

  10. This is kind of a crazy choice, but I'll say the film, "Love Actually" - there 's a lot going on in that movies and I think that would make it OK to watch over and over. I usually watch it once a year during the Christmas season.

My dad loved John Wayne movies - he would have applauded your choice! His favorite was McClintock.

  11. I was debating between Space Cowboys and Pearl Harbor when I realized that I watch the Shawshank Redemption EVERY time it's on. You would think I would own it. But that would be my choice, the Shawshank Redemption.

  12. Mine is a toss up. There aren't many movies I want to see more than once. However.....Tombstone and Rob Roy I'm happy to watch over and over.

  13. Interesting question, but one which I can't answer. There isn't anything I want to watch over and over again... creepy shades of Clockwork Orange. Not my cup of tea.

  14. This is going to sound so ridiculous but there is a movie called "Comfort and Joy" with Nancy McKeon that is shown on Lifetime during the Christmas season. For some reason I absolutely love this movie!! It is just such a feel-good movie I would gladly watch it once a week. And Grover would watch Tombstone...he has already watched it once a month for the past 10 years why not once a week?:)

  15. Definitely something funny and sweet, like Raising Arizona or Napoleon Dynamite. :-)

  16. Oh, I loved The Cowboys (though it makes me cry every time).

I am not sure what movie I could watch every single week - it would have to have some intriguing plot twists that I could keep pulling apart or I'd get bored and end up hitting the fast-forward button! lol!

  17. It's a Wonderful Life!

  18. I could watch "The Way We Were" every week just because Robert Redford would never get old even after I watched it for 30 years.

And Barbra Streisand singing the title song will never grow old either.....

  19. One of the Charlie Brown holiday specials. I identify with Snoopy ;)

  20. John Wayne? My husband and father would be right there with you.
My answer would be different according to the mood I was in but the first film that leapt to mind was 'The Wages of Fear' with a young Yves Montand, which I saw when I was young and impressionable. I loved the utter drama of the denouement.

  21. Lynn – I’m going to have to refresh myself on Love Actually. I think I like it but can’t place the story in my feeble brain.

Bonnie – Looks like you’re not alone on The Shawshank Redemption. It was a good one alright.

OGO – Loved Rob Roy because he was a McGregor and I am a McGregor. Tombstone was a great one too but couldn’t watch either every week. Too intense.

Cube – It is a good question isn’t it. My goddaughter thought of it for me. Are you saying because of Clockwork Orange you don’t like ANY movies?

Sprinkle4 – Sounds like you and Grover are polar opposites with your movie choices. LOL Ron and I definitely are.

Sparkling Red – All you had to say was Raising Arizona and I was rolling in the floor laughing. Loved that movie and loved the time when Nicholas Cage wan’t all over himself and did a great acting job.

Talon – Yes The Cowboys makes me cry every time so I don’t know why I like it so much. I think because we have five grandsons and I can see each of them in one of the boys. I’m not sure if the movie a week ruler would allow you to fast forward. LOL

Chatty Crone – I could have guessed that for you.

Nancy – Oh yes Nancy, Robert Redford will never be too old to hug a tree either!

Riot Kitty – Too bad there isn’t a cat in the Charlie Brown specials. LOL

Pat – My mother is the one who taught me the love of John Wayne. Maybe that is why I picked The Cowboys because I always imagine watching with mom. I’ll have to look up The Wages of Fear on Netflix.

Thanks all for the nice turnout on this question of the week. Roll the credits for JJJ:)

  23. No, I love movies. The Clockwork Orange reference is about how Alex is forced to watch images against his will. I would like a little variety of my choosing and not the same thing time after time... even somthing I love would get tedious.

  24. Star Wars A New Hope- re-done version. Love the score. Have prob seen it 50 times already...

    Some interesting answers!

  25. Not a classic, perhaps, but I LOVE Return to Me. Have you seen it?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Lillies of the Field

  27. Jessi – I would have guessed you would pick CONTACT or THE ENGLISH PATIENT. Oops, sorry I didn’t say “restoration’. It is obvious I don’t have a clue what you are doing. Just know you’re busy honky tonking with big Hollywood celebrities.

cube – Well I guess it is obvious I never saw CLOCKWORK ORANGE. Lol

Snaggle Tooth – I have never been a big Star Wars fan but all my kids are.

Live in the Big Grey Victorian – Will research RETURN TO ME. Don’t believe I’ve seen it.

    Dani – Oh yes…

  28. I thought I would have to think on this for a while...but the same movie comes to mind time and again: Giant with Rock Hudson & Liz Taylor
