YIELD NOT TO TEMPTATION

We go to lab for our cardiology blood work this morning. Our cholesterol tests require fasting and so we will go early.

Do you know how difficult it is to wander around the house keep from absentmindedly picking up a bite of food? If either of us forgets we will cause the tests to be canceled for both because we like to go together.

We will be starving by the time we get out of the lab because others requiring fasting blood work will also arrive as early as possible which only makes everyone have to wait even longer.

The best remedy would be to sleep until noon then hop out of bed and head straight for the lab. Everyone else should be gone by then.

  1. I hate fasting blood work. I usually reward myself by stopping at Panera Bread and getting a latte and bagel to eat on the way to work. My strategy is usually to get there at 8am - the lab opens at 8:30, but some other hungry faster usually beats me there. :)

  2. Hadn't thought of that approach! Usually hubby and I head out to I-HOP and have an 8,000 calorie breakfast.

  4. I'm fasting at the moment, even though I'm not having a blood test, and all I can think about is food. :D

    Enjoy your brunch!

  5. Hi Annie,

I have tried your idea of sleeping until Noon and then rushing to the hospital for the blood test.

It didn't work too well because by the time I got there all the phelbotimists (I've been dying to use that word, thanks!)were out to lunch and I had to wait for them to return so by that time I was really hungry.

  8. I'm hoping you enjoyed a nice meal afterwards. There's nothing like a hearty breakfast after a morning fast.

    Hugs and cheerios...Ily :)

  10. Those fasting tests can be tough. Here's hoping that your cholesterol is well below the limit!

  11. Lynn – There is one cafĂ© close to the hospital and we know what you mean about beating the others there. It has a small parking lot and we have to rush to beat the rest of the fasting crowd.

Tabor – I’m afraid 8000 calories would be a bit much for my 1800 calorie per day program. LOL

Talon – You were so right. It was delicious.

LL Cool Joe – Are you fasting for Lent?

Nancy – I would have a cow if the phlebotomists were at lunch but that would just about be our luck.

Dani – Thanks for the sympathy:)

Chatty Crone – So I guess we’re “fasting sisters”.

Riot Kitty – We had treats before we got home and after we got home as well.

Ileana – My breakfast was a bit too “hearty” and it was not cheerios. LOL

Snaggle Tooth – You are so right about my eating controls being on auto pilot.

Jane – Oh yes, I’m so hopeful about my cholesterol because I think it is going to be my best report ever. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

  12. the one thing i just can't stand in life is getting blood drawn.

i pass out every time. I could never give blood. i mean, if a family member was dying, perhaps. i avoid all kinds of medical tests that involve blood.

pretty sure my knees got weak typing this. isn't that weird?

  13. Got the exact same problem. The only good thing is the choices of restaurants where the lab is located is so much better than where we live. So, we rush out with coffee mugs and get to the lab as soon as it opens.

  14. I hear ya....here we can make an appoinment via computer and that helps with the wait.

  15. Blunt Delivery -- One of my relatives used to do the same thing. None of us could believe that he was able to get through the physical to enter the Air Force and go on to serve in Vietnam. All he had to do was see a needle and he was out like a light. My son didn't suffer over needles, but if he heard a gory story he was out like a light.

rosaria -- I guess we're a little the same way because our town only has one restaurant and when we go for our blood work, that larger town has a nicer selection of eating establishments.

Changes in the wind -- Wow, we have never been given an option of making an appointment for blood work. It is always first-come-first-served around here.

  18. The mind is a strong instrument!!! If you didn't have the test you probably wouldn't even notice half of the food in your house!!!!
