JUST ONE MORE WOMAN SO WHO CARES?

LINK TO WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW "SAVE OUR MOTHER"

Yesterday I learned of a stoning that was about to happen in Iran. A 42 year old woman convicted of adultery has been sentenced and her punishment is/was to happen momentarily as her children make a world wide plea for support in saving their mother.

What's the big deal? It's another country. It is their custom and we should not interfere. It is just one woman in a world of millions.

It is probably over as I write this but maybe not. Some outcry from our blogs might help and prayer is what we definitely have to offer at this late date if Sakineh Mohammadie Ashtiani is still alive. Perhaps she will feel some comfort in the only tie that binds us when a physical connection is not possible.

Supposedly stoning was stopped in Iran in 2002 but as we learned from the movie THE STONING OF SOYARA M. it continues and even family members participate in casting stones at their loved ones.

"Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free..." -- but please, please, please dear God in heaven, do not let them bring their customs with them and help us bring an end to such injustices in the world.

Such a brutal way to die. I pray for all the souls that have endured this kind of treatment.

It is horrible what those men to in the name of morality. God will see to it that they get their karma at some point.

I am sad to say that there is so much havoc and injustice in the world today that I read this and just moved on. You are right, the least I can do is pray. Thanks for the reminder.

We are the good and we are the evil and until our good overthrows our evil we all must witness such horror.

The irony is that the men can take a "temporary wife" when they are away from home. This poor woman is in my prayers.

It's inhumane and unspeakable.

Dani – We cannot begin to imagine how this brutality exists in the 21st century and how those who elect to carry out such punishment can bear to sleep at night.

Kenju – It does give some level of hope to believe those who inflict this pain will someday pay for their cruelty.

Changes – If we do pray for this woman, I certainly hope she will feel the electricity that moves through those of us who condemn this action. I can’t help but wonder if sometime in her life she believed this was a just punishment for someone other than herself?

Tabor – We even witness that type of horror here in the US. We pass by women who are victims of domestic violence and shake our heads only pausing to be glad it is not us.

Kay – I’ll say it is ironic as well as animalistic. How men have been allowed to elevate themselves to such a high status amazes me and I know that some of them have done so with the help of insane women. Why in the world don’t Iranian women storm the gates of the prison and release this poor woman?

Talon – Inhumane but quite speakable. We must speak. We must acknowledge the women who have endured such a horrific punishment.

This makes me sick. :( Wasn't Jesus that befriended prostitutes?

I think men get stoned to death too don't they? It's hard to believe that such things still happen.

This is so brutal and horrible. I, too, can't believe things like this happen in this world today. You are so right. The women need to stand up for themselves and take matters into their own hands. Thanks for coming by my place recently. I always enjoy your visits.

I read that story yesterday and had a very hard time sleeping last night. I was just appalled at our own state department's lackluster response. Just HORRIFYING that such a society exists.

It's hard to believe this could be happening in this day and time - although I have heard of other things just as awful coming from that part of the world.

I cannot imagine living in that kind of environment. I'd be stoned at the airport!

On a serious note, my heart breaks every time I hear stories like this.

I've met women from other countries who feel they are their husbands' properties and it just makes me sick...especially after I meet the husbands.

It is horrible. The men just get away with it too.

Totally agree about people bringing horrific customs with them when they come to other countries. I hate this so called "honour killing". I thought when you came to live in another country you respected their laws. Oh no! You want to be allowed to kill your daughters. Sickening!

Every thing I need to know about Islam I learned on 9/11.
The cowards will get theirs.

This poor woman has already suffered 90 whip lashes, has spend a long time in jail without a full conviction and now she is condemned to be stoned to death. It is our business to speak out as it is whenever injustice happens - at home and abroad.

Humans can be so unbelievably cruel!
I wonder if the man got stoned too, or if it's gender specific? I'm certain the incident wasn't all her fault due to taking 2 to tango...

Thank God we live in an enlightened place! n time- so we're not all chained to the kitchen 24/7, n get to be educated.

I thank God that I live in the U.S. People can say what they want and be disgruntled as they like but we still have it better than so many. I'm sending up prayers for her and them.

Yes I read about this from our papers and the way they discribed the stoning makes me feel disgusted :( I am very sad and yes, let's pray that this custom will be discontinue, no one should go through this sort of punishment.

Thanks for highlighting this.
