NAME THE DEBUTANTES

Here is the happy mama Elenore Hen with her new babies. I moved her with her nest into the nursery box so Elenore could get food and water and move around with her chicks. The top picture shows all three of her chicks. There are two that are black with white markings and one yellow. In the forefront of the top picture you see another egg in the process of hatching but that one didn't make it. The second photo shows the yellow chick admiring her mother. Elenore is back on the nest and since other hens continued to lay eggs in her nest, I might give her another day to see if anymore begin to hatch. I will then move her on the hen house floor with the three chicks.
With all the many chickens I have had, I am running out of names. I welcome your suggestions for naming Elenore Hen's three chicks.

  1. keeping to the victorian names, would suggest Agaatha, Leticia, and Rosemary-----course the first thing that popped into my mind, would be to call em "itsy, bitsy and bossy"

  2. Well Gary, itsy, bitsy and bossy would work well if they turned out to be roosters. Those names would work either way. LOL

  4. A lovely happy blog, how about Rebecca?

  5. Good suggestions RK. Marion would work for a rooster since John Wayne's real name was Marion.

Yvonne, are you suggesting Rebecca, Rebecca and Rebecca? I once had three roosters named Claud, Claud and Brittany:)

  6. They're adorable, Granny Annie! And Mama Eleanora is a nice looking mama. How about floral names lile Iris, Petunia and Buttercup for the yellow one?

My last little pet hen, Chicklet, who was a white Silkie Bantam, just went to chicken heaven two ago at the age of 11. Since she was a pet, she slept in the cat carrier in the laundry room, and went outside in the morning. She hung out with Sidney, one of the dogs, who was her protector. But I digress. LOL.

Hope your Memorial Day weekend is great!

How cute! No suggestions on names, just wanted to stop and say hi!We don't name our chickens!

  8. Renie, I know you didn't suggest "Chicklet" for one of mine but I may have to steal it. What a neat name for a chick. Their mama is a mixedf Silkie Bantham and she is a wonderful girl.

Marilyn, I swore I would stop naming my chicks but something is wrong with me and I always end up naming them which makes it extra sad when a coyote grabs them.

Annie, I'm with you on CHICKLET! And mom looks like such a proud mama.

The other two: I'm been naming my imaginary dogs for years and I'll loan you....Bonnie and Dolly.

  12. Kenju, there might even be a Moe. I was removing the unhatched eggs and cracked them to see if any were close to being formed. None were until I cracked one and heard a peeping. I put the cracked egg back under Elenore. This chick was out of the shell and under Mama's care when I came in for the night. It just might make it.

Dana, I cannot think of a greater honor than having someone share the names of their imaginary dogs with me. Thank you.

Hit, you bet it's wonderful. Thanks. We do enjoy.

  13. I like old fashioned names you don't hear anymore. Mabel, Bernice, Clara, Eunice, Bertie, any of them are great names!

  14. OGO, glad you suggested four names because that last chick did make it so Elenore Hen has four children. WhooHoo!

  19. The babies are just precious and mama look so proud. I love Chickens and named all of mine too.
I had a Goldie Pearl Lucy Mae and a General Jackson too. I called one Peek because she always hid behind things and peeked out at me. And another I called Chicken because she was scared of everything. Many people wouldn't believe this but Chickens have very definite personalities. There were lots of others but these were the first.
I don't have any names to suggest. I always named mine after I got to know them a bit.
I love your Bella story. LOL! How cute.
