HEAVENLY LARRY, AMEN!

The other night we watched an old BECKER episode. A patient with a bit of a mental problem was in Dr. Becker's office and telling his problems adding advice he was getting from Larry. Dr. Becker (Ted Danson) asked "Who is Larry" and the patient responded "Oh, that's God. He lets me call him by his first name."

This reminded me of a time I was in a group (I don't remember what or why) and we were asked to think of someone special who had touched our lives in a positive way. It should be someone good enough that we could picture their face as the face of God. Now there are a lot of special people in my life but there was one person I believed was good enough to equate with the wisdom, love, kindness, power and understanding of our Creator. This was the first time I gave the face of God the face of a woman -- my paternal grandmother.

God's first name, to me, is Myrtle.

Whose name would you pick?

  1. Hmm. That's a tough one. The only face I can think of right now is the one I'm looking at on your blog - Mad City Chicken!

  2. That's easy for me - my maternal great grandfather was awesome, and his first name is Jabez. God would be lucky to look like him.

  3. Come on RK, surely you have known some good, kind people....

Jabez is a good God-sounding name PG.

L.Annie, I'm afraid we need a little more information on John-Roger. Oops, I guess I just ask whose name you would pick and not why? Oh well.

  4. Annie,

I would pick my Dad, John. He was a good Husband, Father, American and Catholic.

He was smart, kind, witty and loving. He was a Phillies fan who listened to the games all Summer on radio. He made up outrageous stories that he told my children to make them laugh.

He was everybody's friend and we all still miss him. I have a feeling he's up there with God now because the Phillies won the World Series last year.....

  5. There are many people who have touched my life so it would be hard to choose. I think I will give him the name Paul-Daniel.

  6. It would be a toss up between my maternal grandmother, Carrie or my mother, Dawn. But God would have to have a woman's name. She wouldn't like it if you called her Tom, Dick, or Harry. ;-)

  7. Wow!!!! My paternal granny's name was Myrtle!!! And no, I wouldn't call God that. My mother thinks she's a better person that everyone else on the planet. I am good -- I don't remind her that pride is one of the 7 deadly sins and that she's guilty, guilty, guilty.

  8. It would have to be my daddy...Nellie. Not sure God would want that for a name. Take Nancy's comment, delete the Catholic and change Phillies to Red Sox and you have my dad. Aren't some dads just the greatest?!

  9. That's a great post. For me it would have to be an old Pastor friend, who passed away years ago - Dick.

  10. I thought you were talking about me for a while and then I found out you weren't so I'll need a bit to get over the embarrassment. Later.

  12. I'd have to say my father. He's a brave soul and shows unconditional love like no one else I've ever encountered (and not just because he's my "Papi"). ;)

Btw, my father's name is Jaime.

My dear, precious Gramilo who called me Jamilo.
    Her name was Violet.

  16. Annie,

I would have to pick my maternal grandmother. Her name was Candace and she was an amazing woman. I never heard her say one bad word about anyone. She loved God and followed Him.

    Blessings,
    Mary

  19. hey.. nice blog... I saw your comment questioning abt custard apple.. ok .. first custard apple is nothing like apple.... it s like a jack fruit only in the size of a apple...

the fruit has a lot and lots of seeds in it. and a coating of a very sweet stuff is put inbetween these seeds... people suck this stuff off the seeds...

i actually love custard apple... they have a twisty taste of sweetness to them.
