UNEXPLAINED INJURIES

It was Wednesday and my right ankle began to hurt for seemingly no reason. The limping began and my belief was that the next day it would be better. No such luck – it was worse. My little journey to the mailbox in the snow on Thursday probably didn’t help.

Again my belief was that it would be better the next day. My mind began a journey of retracing my steps and into events that might have led to this injury. There was no memory of twisting my ankle or stepping on anything that caused pain. Sleepwalking was about the best answer that surfaced.

Friday the bruise was huge. The arch of my foot was black and the black and blue mark spread to my ankle and over the top of my foot. My toes were trying to disappear in the swelling. The best thing would be to stay off my foot but I am just not a person who can do that. Ron got tired of telling me to be careful.

Saturday the bruise began to lighten up and this morning it is more of a red color with swelling and some pain. Still the mystery remains. How can a person end up with such a painful and lingering injury and not have any idea how it came to be?

No dear friends, I did not have too much wine!

  1. Perhaps you should see a doctor...maybe there is a situation inside that has caused this rather than a injury? Especially if you have no idea of hurting it and it bruised and swelled like that. Well anyway....stay off it!

  3. I'm sorry! I have had that happen and the only explanation I can come up with is that it was a broken blood vessel. Now what caused it to break? Who knows?

  4. Just a guess...my mother had the same thing and it turned out to be gout...she took a prescription and it finally went away. Hope you heal soon!

  5. I wake up with back pain or my knee hurts all the time. It could be an old injury resurfacing. Or you could have stepped on it wrong and not noticed it at the time, then with additional walking, etc., it grew steadily worse until you got some swelling.

Just some guesses. I hope it feels better. Probably just best to ice it and not worry about it too much (and drink more wine). Oh, Mrs. Z says to stay off of it too.

  6. That truly is a mystery. I would have thought you would have remembered something happening to cause such a dramatic bruise. Are you SURE you haven't been dipping into your secret whiskey stash??!
I'm glad it is getting better now. It seems kind of scary not to know what could have caused it. If it happens again, I'd say a doctor's visit is needed to find out what the heck's going on!
