WORDS FOR WEDNESDAY - 02-02-2022

This month, the prompts are being provided by C. Lee McKenzie.

DING-DONG by Granny Annie

The heart-shaped box of chocolate-covered Valentine candy was in the back of my car. Garret the creep had given it to me as I was leaving the parking garage. I was completely flummoxed by his approach and did not feel a bit of delight. Not only because I was on a diet but also because it was from Garret. He was not a person I cared to encounter.

Valentine's Day had come and gone and I did not realize the box of now sticky candy was in the back seat of my car. The candy was tightly wrapped which was a good thing. Garret was waiting for me again as I was leaving the parking garage. I tried to avoid him as he approached me and halted my car. He had looked in my car and saw the abandoned gift he had given me. He was incensed and reached in to grab it. As he inspected this puffy stuffed box he squeezed it then cursed as drippy melted chocolate poured out over him.

Late that same evening I heard the doorbell. “Who in the world?” I thought . I could see it was Garret and I was ready for him.

That night crime scene tape surrounded my property. I had been prepared with my small 25 pistol as Garret had tried to push through my front door.

WORDS FOR WEDNESDAY - 01-26-2022

The prompts will be here this month and are provided by Hilary Melton-Butcher and posted by Elephant's Child.

THE HILLS ARE ALIVE by Granny Annie

This was a perfect day to leave my cottage after being in quarantine. A nice walk would be bliss. It was just a small hill but a place of beauty covered by mosses. My heart demanded that I make the climb. Wearing my good Wellington Boots, the journey began.

It was a joy to view the sedge in bloom. There were horses being exercised on the heath. They seemed to be involved in a race.

I loved to view the murmuration taking place above me. The birds created art of their own.I was concentrating on the starlings and I failed to see the fissure in my path. My boots got caught in the split earth I could not get my foot out of the boot. It had twisted and latched on. It would surely take the strength of Ajax to free me. The sky was darkening and the weather would soon turn much colder. I was glad the hedge wall nearby created a windbreak that would keep me from freezing.

I could hear the thresh of wheat and called loudly for the workers. Hopefully they would come and free me from this dilemma. I tore at the boot and could not pull my foot out. Suddenly I was inspired to speak to the hill and pat the soft dirt. “Please let me go” I begged. The earth slowly moved and opened wide to allow my release.

LOVED THE RAKE by Granny Annie

Define someone who is a “Rake”

A rake is a lovable scoundrel. There's a wide spectrum of rakes. Usually, a rake is someone who has lots of experience with women and finds a number of relationships an art.

How was I to know this handsome fellow was first attracted to my shiny, chrome yellow '56 Studebaker? To me it was just a shell to get around in. I never dreamed my car's appeal would turn into a toxic coincidence. He did not own a car so I was his transportation, plus I loaned him my Studebaker often, never dreaming who he was visiting.

I named my car Daffodil and Rake and I had many a bevy of fun times during every jaunt. This car did not have a radio so Rake would charm me with his beautiful singing voice. Without GPS in those days, we had to rely on a map to take us new places. Yes once we even ended up stuck in a turnip patch. It was all good until one of his many girlfriends came knocking on Daffodil's windows that were covered with frost demanding to know who I was.

THE END?

Nope, I believed every explanation and married Rake. Though he was a scoundrel, he gave me two wonderful children and no regrets.

NEW YEAR BIRDS

 2022 NEW YEAR BIRDS

I have barn cats and have not been able to put out feeders for the birds.  While my kids were here they put up a fence outside for their dogs.  Then they added a small fence around my propane tank and a tree.  The put up feeders and I loved watching the birds.  When my kids left they took their feeders and I was so sad watching the birds appear looking for the food.  Since it was a well enclosed area, I bought my own feeder and keep it filled.  It is such a joy to watch the beautiful birds out my kitchen window and have yet to see a cat go in the area.
