OFF TO THE RACES

Well, I'm really not going to the races but I will be gone for a period of time.  While I am away, please visit my sidebar and look at my Roller Blogs (at bottom of roller blog list click to "show all").  Pick someone to visit that you do not know and make a comment here about something you discovered.  You might also comment on their blog and tell them Granny Annie sent you.  You, my dear friends are a wonderful mixed bag of tricks.  All kinds of politics and religions are represented and a fairly large array of ages.  Consider this assignment a fun exercise and you'll have a while to get it done.  T.T.F.N.   (Ta Ta For Now)

You might also leave a suggestion for a blogger I might enjoy adding to my bag:)

NOT YET A TEEN

Question Of The Week  3-25-13

What was your biggest accomplishment before you turned 13?

Mine would be singing a duet at church with my best friend in front of the entire congregation. Or maybe it was when I got to bake a cake without any help.  Both accomplishments were followed by a personal sense of pride.

HOOKED ON PHONICS

My daughter and granddaughter came here on Sunday.  They stopped to eat at McDonald's on the turnpike. When they ordered, the clerk asked what name.  My daughter said "Michelle".  I had to laugh at the name the employee wrote on the receipt and am sharing it here.  Maybe it's not funny and this is the way some spell Michelle.  Do you know any unusual name spellings?

PULL UP A CHAIR

Question Of The Week 3-18-13

What is your "signature dish"?

My signature dish: You can add or subtract from this meal but it is always called breakfast around here, even when it is for dinner.  Nothing makes our family smile more than to awaken to the smell of bacon cooking.  Grandchildren can special order how they want their eggs cooked and they can choose toast or pancakes and jelly or syrup.  The variations go on and on and so does the happiness in Granny Annie's kitchen. What special dish or meal are you always asked to prepare?

BE HONEST NOW

Question Of The Week 03-11-13

If you are sitting in front of your computer and you want to know what time it is, do you look up for a clock or look at your watch before you realize the correct time is on your computer as well at the date?

I did the the other day and laughed when I realized there as a clock on my computer.  Then our home health care worker did the same thing the same day with her computer sitting on her lap.  I realized we may not be alone.

NOW I AM WORRIED

Chicks hatching in incubator
A friend contacted me on Facebook this morning to see if I wanted some baby chicks that are due to hatch on Monday.  It seems that a friend of hers was home schooling her children and was hatching these eggs for a school project.  However part of that learning project did not include arrangements for the chicks after their birth.

If they were being hatched under a mama hen, I could take the chicks and the hen.  There is no way I can care for chicks right now.  Without a mother hen these babies require a lot of care.  I offered several alternatives for finding homes but I cannot help  worrying about the fate of these newborns.

We can eat eggs.  We can eat grown chickens.  But somehow it doesn't seem right to watch the wonder of nature as the chicks arrive into the world and then just neglect them.

Who else thinks there is are some  major lessons to learn here and  believe the home-schooling teacher may have missed the mark?

Remember Elenore Hen with her chicks Chicklet, Mr. Gibson and Rebecca? Chicklet is our main rooster now and you all know about Mr, Gibson turning out to be a nurturing hen like mama Elenore.  Rebecca, sadly, was coyote food.

FEVER, RASH, CHILLS, DEATH

Question Of The Week 2-25-13

What (if any) allergies do you have and what are the consequences when encountered?

DAYS LIKE THIS

This is what is happening in our neck of the woods.  Last Wednesday thousands of bass fishermen began to pour onto The Grand Lake of the Cherokees for this event.  Even if Ron and I were in the best of health, we wouldn't have ventured to the south side of the lake for anything.

Today we turn our attention to the Oscars where we will once again see my god-daughter Jessi as she enters on the red carpet for what I believe is the 5th year. Here she is last year. (To your right of the lady in the green dress.) Another year of playing "Where's Waldo Jessi".
You may think the winning fisherman or the Hollywood stars are the center of this weekend, but I know the only champion is Jessi:)

HERE WE GO AGAIN

My x-rays from first diagnosis.

Trigger finger is back for the third time.  Can barely type. Forgive lack of posts and brief comments for a while.

Here is my first post about it.

PAINFUL AND NOT ITCHY

I have had injections twice and dread the thought of doing that again.  Surgery is another option but don't like that thought either.  However this is the absolutely the worst ever!

READ IT YOURSELF

Passenger: 'It was pretty disgusting'  click this link to watch interview

NBC's Mark Potter talks with two passengers who are very happy to be back on land after their experience on board the disabled Carnival cruise ship.  These young ladies, Brittney and Kendall,  were very succinct and interesting in their telling of the nightmare experience and expressed their joy of being back on land.  The most striking thing about the interview was the ending when one of the girls mentioned the fact that they did better than a lot of the passengers because they had hope and had started their trip with a verse from Joshua 1:9  At that point  the newsman brought the interview to an abrupt halt.

As the girls walked away the one said "Joshua 1-9 Look it up." and so I did.

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

THE GOOD NEWS AND THE REALLY GOOD NEWS

First the construction workers are gone from our home and the new bathroom is lovely and working.  The other two bathrooms are complete also and our home is once again dust free.  (Okay, as dust free as any home in the country can be.)

New carpeted and paneled stairway.
Looking into new wide bathroom entry way from our bedroom.
Very roomy bathroom with easy wheelchair mobility available. (That won't be necessary now for quite a while!)
Wonderful shower with grab bars and seat so Ron can bath without assistance.

Second, and most important, you know we have taken trip after trip to the Orthopedic specialist in Tulsa seeking help for Ron's back Before his chemo and radiation treatments, the epidural spinal injections were giving him some relief but the last three years there has not been any relief in sight.  Thursday they did it. They gave him the shot in a new spinal location between the discs and he knew when he felt the shot that it was different.  The next day he really knew it was different when he walked unaided and virtually pain free. We are holding our breath that this will be a long lasting treatment and one that can be repeated successfully when necessary.

Thanks to all for your care, concern, thoughts and prayers.  Keep it up:)

spending it is like water soaking into sand."

Are you a spender or a saver?

WHAT CHA GONNA DO WHEN THEY COME FOR YOU...

Majesty and horror wrapped up in one big bundle of protected species.  Three have been spotted flying over our property the past several weeks and they are feasting on our chickens and guinea fowl.  At first I wondered what could carry off a big fat guinea fowl, then I saw a huge bald eagle feasting on it's catch near the road yesterday and I would swear the bird was as big as our dog Slim.  He just looked at me as if saying, "Yea girl, what cha gonna do?"  Needless to say I didn't get a picture of this mighty bird.  I wonder how many American Bald Eagles are actually nesting around here.  Part of me is so happy to have them here and then part of me wishes they would eat coyotes instead of chickens.
