It is Father's Day 2023. My daddy has been gone since 1999. I can still hear him often. He was a good, hardworking, dedicated man. One of those men who was out of the home mostly while Mama raised us. They were the picture perfect parents.
Summer vacations were the times I loved my daddy the most. We always left town and mostly spent time in Colorado. He spent his vacation time acting crazy and making us all laugh. He and my mother would sneak kisses and pats and live totally different than when he was back at work.
What was his work you ask? He was a minister and when we were back in whatever town we called home, he was busy with other people. The congregations needed him 24/7. They could never recognize that he had a family and even if they did, they would not care. Do I sound bitter? I guess there were a lot of times resentment would fill me if I needed my daddy and someone knocked at the door at any hour and demanded his attention.
Happy Father's Day to the best provider who picked the perfect woman to be our mother. Our family was blessed.
Yes I am the precious one in daddy's lap. |
Dad was highly educated and moved far ahead in his career. |
Dad's are our first heros!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful memories.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry your congregation was so inconsiderate. My father, called Grandpa on my blog, was an Ob/Gyn and on call a lot, so often called away from family gatherings. I understand, and it's not easy to grow up that way.
ReplyDeleteHappy Father's Day to all the good fathers in your life.
My dad been gone since 1977.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on, and stay safe.
Quite inconsiderate of the congregation to call at all times knowing that your dad had his own family that also needed him. I don't miss my dad.
ReplyDeleteI guess I think about all the lives your father helped while you made a sacrifice. He might very well have saved lives and that was his calling.
ReplyDeleteI love that family portrait. Everyone looks happy.
ReplyDeleteWonderful tribute
