SUNDAY TALKING...

FEARMONGERING

Do you hear what I hear?  There seem to be a lot of doomsayers doing most of the talking these days.  We aren't worrying about the state of our own country but we are worrying about the state of the world. My neighbors and friends all have predictions for the future.  None of it is pretty.

My generation grew up with fear of end-times.  We had practice drills at school and would hide under our desks...as if that would protect us from nuclear disaster.  My sister harbored the most fear in those days.  She would quiz our father (a minister) about what she was hearing from her friends.  "The world is coming to an end!"  He always responded "No one knows about that day or hour..." Matthew 24:36  Our mother always responded "There is always hope". Proverbs 23:18 "There is surely a future hope for you and your hope will not be cut off"

Our entire family is a mishmash of different religious as well as political opinions.  We get together under the agreement of agreeing to disagree and we don't share our wild opinions. Personally I have always believed my mother...there is always hope. How can we get up every day if we don't believe such a thing?

  1. Your mother was right - no matter what happens - even to the ends of the earth - our hope is in Christ Jesus - who will be with us always no matter what. There is always HOPE.

  3. There have been doom and gloom predictions in every generation. Continue to work toward a better future with hope, it's all any of us can do.

  5. Those of us old enough to see an entire pacific island disappear in a mushroom cloud find it difficult to see how far we've slipped backwards. Still, there is room for hope.
