The Iron Maiden Wasn't a Thing
No, this supposed torture device never actually existed. The widespread medieval use is a classic 18th-century myth, supported
because of the perceptions that the Middle Ages were a widely
uncivilized era of violence and mayhem. (They were bad, but not that bad.)
We toured a medieval museum in Munich, Germany and there were several renditions of the Iron Maiden on display. Ugly devices.

What is that thing? Were women locked into it as punishment for something? I thought an iron maiden was a metal chastity belt.
