DID YOU KNOW...

Did you know it’s illegal to feed pigeons on the sidewalks and streets in San Francisco?

Sure, a sprinkle of breadcrumbs to feed hungry birds may seem harmless but in the popular Californian city, you could get into trouble. San Francisco's Public Works Department explains this law is in place because there "are dozens of reasons why" you shouldn't feed your new pigeon friends, "but mainly: feeding pigeons harm our neighborhoods and also harms the birds."

  1. Iam not surprised...as they say "pigeons are rats with wings"

  2. Feeding them bread isn't healthy for them.

Feeding wild animals at all creates dependence. Remember when the lockdowns started and places where animals were used to feeding off of what humans dropped had all kinds of trouble with the animals not knowing where to get food and mobbing the few people who were trying to pass through? It was heartbreaking and dangerous.

  3. I'm pretty sure there's a similar rule everywhere since pigeons are such a nuisance. You feed one, even accidentally, (you drop a crumb while walking along) and the next day there is a flock of two hundred! We have mourning doves here where I live (pigeons in the city) they are a smaller light brown bird and the upstairs neighbour thinks they are beautiful, so she throws out crumbs and oats and now we have a flock of about 50 pooping in the water dish and on the grass. I shouldn't complain because we also (mostly me) feed the white cockatoos.

  4. I love almost all birds---- They are delightful. Pigeons, on the other hand, not so much.
