My grandchildren used to eat tons of cherries off our tree. Thankfully I was the only grandma in the world who never had milk around.

DeleteNews to me too, but I would think the milk would counteract any acidity from the cherries. Perhaps the cherries were bad, causing the food poisoning. Or some other food eaten that night was contaminated.
