FELLED BY YOUR GUN...300 NAZIS FELLED BY YOUR GUN...
I am a member of a local library book club. The book this month was THE DIAMOND EYE by Kate Quinn. It is a WWII fictional story based on fact. Mila Pavlichenko was a Russian sniper with over 300 kills. She came to the USA as a guest of Eleanor Roosevelt to raise help for Russians against the Nazis. It is an amazing book. Woody Guthrie wrote a song in her honor called Miss Pavlichenko.
A woman sniper?? I would never have thought it possible. Guess that makes me a little sexist. Sounds like an interesting read and will check it out. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThey say the actual account was 309 but probably more than that
DeleteThis sounds like something I would enjoy. Powerful women.
ReplyDeleteShe was amazing and the story was great. I learned a lot about Eleanor Roosevelt too.
DeleteSo many famous and brave women do not appear as they should in our and the world's history. Glad this was documented.
ReplyDeleteIt is difficult to convince some people that she was a real person. I think she still holds the record for most kills of a female sniper.
DeleteIt sounds like an interesting read. I'll keep my eye out for it....the glass one! :)
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to remember there were actually times that Russia was our ally. Put your eye back in.
DeleteHopefully, Putin will disappear and Russia will become our ally again....soon won't be soon enough. We're living in a very worrying time.
DeleteIt isn't something I would like to read. I prefer fiction mostly, so I can tell myself it isn't real.
ReplyDeleteI liked it because it was a good impression of two famous women, Mila Povlichenko and Eleanor Roosevelt.
DeleteYes, there are female snipers. There was a photo a while back of one who wears her lipstick and earrings, who shot a Taliban member who was planting a roadside bomb. Amazing women.
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of women snipers until I read The Diamond Eye. Did not hear of one shooting a Taliban member but I know that had to make her feel good.
DeleteNever heard of her.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
My brother-in-law who prides himself on knowing WWII history had never heard of her either. I plan to do a lot more research of women in the military.
DeleteWow very interesting!
ReplyDeleteYes I found it very interesting and informative.
DeleteThe old Soviet Union had lots of women in non-traditional roles.
ReplyDeleteI am just guessing but I would assume the Israeli army has many well trained women snipers today.
DeleteA woman sniper - that is interesting. Kudos to her!!!
ReplyDeleteKudos is right. She had to struggle hard to get where she was.
