WORDS FOR WEDNESDAY - 06-22-2022

This month, the prompts are being provided by Charlotte/Mother Owl at her blog.

PAROLE OFFICER by Granny Annie

They knew him in prison as TIGER. That name would CONFUSE many because he was a LIGHT-weight. It was known that it had taken at least a DOZEN police officers to restrain him when he had been captured. Earl, (his real name), believed it was like an EQUINOX, "the period of struggle between darkness and light, death and life”, that brought about his capture. All they had for his trial was SUSPICION and not a shred of evidence. Still their made-up INVESTIGATION brought about a guilty verdict with no TREATY in sight. His only idea of prison was from the movie GREEN MILE and that was what he expected.

The years for Earl's interment felt like a MOUNTAIN climb. His moment of parole finally arrived. Earl's first meeting with his parole officer, Maxine Holden, left him weak in the knees. She was beautiful and made him so nervous he could barely remember his STRATEGIC plans for return to freedom. Miss. Holden gave him a list of prospective employers. He found a job quickly only to learn the workers were facing REDUNDANCY. This gave him the perfect reason to return to see his beautiful parole officer. He thought of every reason he could to continue seeing her. She grew to believe in him and reviewed his trial and conviction. Maxine contacted The Innocence Project and begged them to look at Earl's conviction. With DNA evidence this group was able to overturn the verdict and clear his name. He sued the State was awarded a large settlement for his years in prison. Earl and Maxine married and began their own work on freeing wrongly convicted prisoners.

  1. Hooray for justice finally being found - and for seeking to give it to others too. A great use of the prompts.

  3. Excellent story.

Our state has hamstrung those wrongly convicted, they can only get a limited settlement unless they can in turn prove that the prosecutor knew of their innocence and proceeded anyway, and how are you going to prove such a thing?

  4. My you write well. I've never had a good imagination, I was useless at creative writing at school. Maybe that's why I enjoy reading so much.

  5. At first I thought Earl was guilty but I'm glad he is free at the end and with a lovely wife. Great use of the prompts.

    Have a lovely day.
