MAMA'S REBELLION by Granny Annie
Mama was in the kitchen. The screen door had opened and slammed shut for the hundredth time. She felt her head pounding as the thundering hooves of the children returned. Mama did not like to yell at the children. She normally had a velvet voice but for once a harsh tone seemed appropriate. "Back outside!" Mama demanded, making an unusual booming sound. She shuffled to the back door and locked both the screen door and the wooden door behind the children. They pounded on the door to be let inside. She wondered if it might be more comforting to let them in and for her to go on a walk.
Mama turned off the stove burners and put the dinner on hold. She grabbed her best green hat and now had a choice. Would she take her knitting and go to the park or should she wander to the drugstore and have a milkshake? She smiled as she felt drawn into her first bit of rebellion.
Interesting work around the word thundering hooves. Yep, it can sound like that sometimes and thing she found was a good alternative.
ReplyDeleteHooray for Mama's rebellion. I hope she enjoys it to the max.
ReplyDeleteWOW, ya done good with those words!
ReplyDeleteSometimes you just gotta get away from it all for an hour or so!
ReplyDeleteSometimes Mama needs to rebel and sometimes she takes the kids with her for milkshakes and doughnuts.
