WORDS FOR WEDNESDAY

River of Drifting Through Life has provided our prompts this week.  Hope you will give it a try.  The words are:
companionship, extenuating, complaisant (do not confuse with complacent), nuns, competition, computer
and/or
bedevilment, concoction, splat, eaves, clutching, institute

Here is my story

JOYFUL JELLO by Granny Annie

Marylee was the youngest child in a household of four other children. A large family did not guarantee her companionship. The extenuating circumstance of Marylee being born eight years after her fourth sibling practically made her an only child. She was very complaisant in her search for friendship.

The school Marylee attended was regimented. Each child had a place to sit in each classroom and reserved tables for lunch. Talking was not allowed and there was no recess. The nuns were strict. They encouraged competition among the students. Marylee was a prodigy on the computer. This made the teachers favor her. This made the other students dislike her.

It was not known that Marylee was also filled with bedevilment. She was determined that she would break up the boredom. She wanted her classmates to break free and find moments of fun together. Her popularity was just around the corner but not popularity with the nuns.

Marylee had learned a few things from her older siblings. She had heard stories of their antics and believed it was her turn. The concoction was pink goo made with strawberry gelatin, water and cornstarch. Clutching a hose hidden near her side, Marylee pointed it toward the eaves. She took a mighty breath and let it our blowing the sticky substance stored in the hose over and over. Splat! It covered the ceiling and walls of the noble institute.

Laughter and glee erupted and Marylee was surrounded by shocked students who delighted in her prank. Marylee was then pulled out of the class and marched to the office of the headmistress. It was all worth it. Now she knew everyone in school and years of plots and schemes were ahead under her leadership. Marylee was even happy as she scrubbed away all the pink blotches.
