What commercials do you always
fast forward through
(like Sarah
McLachlan's ASPCA commercials) and which do you watch and laugh about?
I
love Geico especially now with Peter Pan.
The Progressive commercial
when the 50's guy asks Flo
"Where is your husband?"
And who can't laugh
at the
Duluth Trading Men's Clothing?
There is the odd one I appreciate but I seem to have been away so long I can't bring them to mind.
ReplyDeleteI mostly watch shows that have been recorded by my DVR, so fast forward through all commercials. But my niece and I saw a Sonic Drive-in commercial over the holidays that we were rolling on the floor laughing at - you had to be there probably. Here's a link: http://www.ispot.tv/ad/AABN/sonic-drive-in-ultimate-chicken-sandwich-chicken-judge
ReplyDeleteThere are a few here that drive me insane and when I've recorded a show, naturally, I fast-forward through all the ads...other times I will either change channels or put click on "mute" when the idiotic ads appear; those that are just damn annoying!
ReplyDeletePat, that is a good place to be. Most we don't want to remember anyway.
ReplyDeleteLynn, those Sonic guys are a hoot. All their ads used to be funny but now it is getting more difficult for the writer to hit a funny one. That judging one is funny.
ReplyDeleteLee, I know what you mean. If I can't fast forward I keep the mute button handy also.
ReplyDeleteI prerecord everything, even sports so I mostly fast forward through the ads. That Humane Society one I can't watch. You might want to skip my post today as it is on a similar vein as the ASPCA one.
ReplyDeleteHowever I do like and will watch any that Payton Manning is in. He is funny.
Patti, instead of skipping your post I ran right over to it and read it and it was great :-)
Deleteall TV for me is just background noice while I work at my desk or doll table:) I do find the Farmers Insurance commercial funny:) though I dont believe a word of it ..
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a fan of commercials, especially some of the newer ones. When I do watch a favorite show, it's usually a marathon of one or the other and the same dang commercial comes on every break. Those are the times I wish I could push a button and fast forward through to the show.
ReplyDeleteTerri, you need to be able to DVR your marathon shows and then you could fast forward through the commercials.
Deletei clearly watch too much TV as I want to fat forward through them all.
ReplyDeleteTabor, I am sure you meant fast forward but with all the TV I watch fat forward seems appropriate. Lol
DeleteI don't know the Duluth one at all, but I do think the Geico "that's what you do" commercials are very lever and creative.
ReplyDeleteOlga, the Geico commercials we can easily say have been around since the cavemen. Lol
DeleteI can't at the moment think of any that make me smile. I can think of waaaaay too many which make me grit my teeth and say a few things. And himself has control of the remote so I can't get rid of them.
ReplyDeleteE.C., all of the "himselves" have to control the controller
DeleteI don't know any of those adverts as they aren't available here. On my first trip to the USA when I saw adverts for medication I just about cried laughing at all the side effects they warned you about. Surely nobody in their right mind would ever buy the stuff.
ReplyDeleteI don't record programmes. When I used to have a recorder I never ever got around to watching what I'd recorded. Mostly I watch BBC which doesn't have any adverts & has the best programmes most of the time. If I miss anything I can use their iPlayer to catch up.
If I do watch a channel with adverts I often pop out to the loo or make a coffee to avoid them. A high proportion of our ads are for gambling, loans, insurance, banks & charities asking for text donations.
The ones that make me laugh are for Specsavers a chain of opticians & they are good. Their prices will go up soon as they've been using John Cleese!
Winifred, commercials with John Cleese would have to be hysterical. And yes I can imagine that it cost too much to hire him.
DeleteI don't watch TV. Why? Because I can't deal with the commercials. They are too loud and too many of them.
ReplyDeleteBirdie, it is true though they deny it that the commercials come on louder than the show
DeleteI enjoy some of them the first time, like the ones you mentioned, but so many run over and over and DVR's are great inventions.
ReplyDeleteThe only commercials I truly hate, beyond those ASPCA and those starving children ones, are the ones that you first see in their entirety (which you can ultimately appreciate), but then cut down to size when they slip them into regular rotation.
ReplyDeleteI loved those early Progressive commercials when they had those B-list stars (Little Richard, Eddie Money, the voiceover guy for movie trailers, etc.)
G.B., oh yes I forgot about those early progressive commercials with those stars. Little Richard was especially funny.
DeleteI myself like those same commercials! The animal n child music ones always make me tear up- but it is more the music than images, n the combo is always sadder, even realizing it is an old one n the animals are likely gone now-
ReplyDeleteGuess we have a heart!
S.T., there is never a question that you have heart.
DeleteI like Flo too. :- )
ReplyDeleteI actually don't watch TV, but I would watch a commercial with John Cleese!
