Do you just pour a bowl of cereal, add milk and then sit down and eat
it? Or is there an art to preparing your bowl of cereal?
Do you mix a variety of cereals? (I at least add grape nuts). Do you add fruit or nuts? Do you still eat kids cereal like Cap'N Crunch or Fruit Loops, etc. What about hot cereal like oatmeal or cream of wheat? Inquiring minds want to know. (Well just my inquiring mind.) My family and friends hate the fact that I put Ice water on my cereal instead of milk, but hey, to each her own:-)
Yes - I only like Kashi Go Lean Crisp - Toasted Berry Crumble. I put it on plain, no fat yogurt and mix it up. I put fruit on top usually, unless I'm out - berries or a banana. This morning - a banana.
ReplyDeleteI used to get nonfat vanilla flavored yogurt, but bought the plain once by accident. The big tub, of course. :) So I sucked it up and ate the plain yogurt and discovered I liked it better, after all.
I've never heard of putting hot water on cold cereal, but I guess that would be the equivalent of making oatmeal.
I despise milk. I eat my cereal dry, straight from the box.
ReplyDeleteI never eat cereal or breakfast. I don't eat anything until mid-day.
ReplyDeleteI actually love oatmeal and cream of wheat because I get to add a little maple syrup and mild. I use coconut/almond milk. If I have cold cereal it will be raisin bran or cheerios with my milk alternative. Once in a great while granola with yoghurt. Most often I have toast or a small muffin with my coffee though.
ReplyDeleteSeriously?? Ice water?? I side with your family on this one.
I eat sugary kid cereal because I like to keep it on hand for grandkids. And that's my story and i'm sticking to it.
ReplyDeleteLynn, I put ice water (not hot water) on cold cereal. The water has to be very, very cold and it is delicious. The flavor of the cereal comes through better.
ReplyDeleteLisa, if you despise milk you really should try ice cold water on it:-)
ReplyDeleteLL Cool Joe, I can't make it til mid day without eating something. Don't you know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day?
ReplyDeleteOlga, I like the sound of your cereal especially with the touch of maple syrup. Yum!
ReplyDeleteI will admit that when the grandchildren don't eat all the kid cereal, I do finish it after they leave. And yes, with ice water on it. LOL
ReplyDeleteCereal, as with everything else in my life, is dependent on my mood. Some days I have hot oatmeal, some days it's granola (Kashi Go Lean) or sugary cereal (Frosted Flakes or Frosted Shredded Wheat) with milk. I can eat Raisin Bran with milk or right out of the box. Plain yogurt with granola and fruit is also a favorite.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of ice cold water on cereal, but I'm intrigued about what you said about it bringing out the flavor of the cereal.
I eat whatever cereal is on the shelf...usually stuff leftover from visits by the grands. I almost always add milk although sometimes I just eat it with flavored yogurt. If I am not hungry for dinner I can eat it out of the box watching TV. By the way, love your new selfie!!
ReplyDeleteI am more likely to eat cereal in the evening than the morning. Milk, yoghurt, fruit, dry... it depends on the day. Which bowl I use matters though. And which spoon.
ReplyDeleteI don't regularly eat cereal - I go crazy for it for a while...and then won't have it again for ages...fits and starts!
ReplyDeleteWhen I do eat cereal I don't eat the kiddy stuff...I do like ones with nuts, seeds and fruit in them...and I like to add fresh fruit, too...and I have it with milk...sometimes with yoghurt.
No milk, just super dry corn flakes, cherrios or rice krispies (generic versions). The only time I add something to my cereal is when I'm having very bland muesli, and that's about four drops of sugar-free syruple.

Oh there's definitely a ritual to my morning cereal. I have four different kinds of cereal I put in my bowl along with dried fruits and a banana and flax seed and whatever else we're into. My kids think we're crazy.
ReplyDeleteNo cereal except once in a bluemoon, hot, instant oatmeal. No more crunchies for these bad teeth- they keep breaking!
ReplyDeleteHalf a cup of large oat flakes, one cup of cold water, a handful of dried fruit (raisins/dried cherries/chopped apricots or whatever), a spoonful of maple syrup, stir, microwave for 4 minutes at 70% power and blammo! It's breakfast! Pro tip: put it in the microwave before yoga, and it will be cool enough to eat by the end of yoga. Or your yoga equivalent.
ReplyDeleteYou know? I don't remember the last time I ate cereal...
