And they dare to call themselves "service providers"!! Today, after taking most of the day, DISH repaired my internet service. This had to be done by replacing my old Wild Blue equipment with the new Excede and forcing a change to a type of service I really did not want. This cure was finally determined after a couple of months of trying to repair my existing service.
So the technician left me today a happy camper with faster service and best of all working service even in a winter blizzard.. And now for the kicker.
When they changed out the equipment they completely deleted my old email and all the attached documentation. My friends emails, my medical info, my brokerage, my prescriptions, my saved order records, my church group emails, and the saddest of all, the remaining final emails under Ron's old account. All the addresses of his Navy buddies, etc. All gone. When I called DISH I was told that their reps have a checklist that includes that information so I surely was told. I doubt that is a detail I would have forgotten.
I am still in shock with the simple response from DISH. "It is gone. There is nothing we can do." All of my dish mail account information is gone, the account is gone, Ron's account is gone. We all know the television sleuths manage to restore that kind of data all the time so surely DISH can too.
aww Annie. I am so very sorry.
ReplyDeleteYes the info is somewhere , it would take a true techie to find it but its there.. Stay on their butt everyday till they make this right for you.
big hugs
I guess I am over it. They have absolutely no intention of even trying to retrieve it. I am still in shock though.
DeleteOh, Annie. That is just awful. I have lost things because of internet providers and I know how heart breaking it is. Makes you feel kinda empty inside.
ReplyDeleteInstead of moving important info to a email file I need to print it and save in my file caninet. So much for less paper.
DeleteI'm with Sonny...
ReplyDeleteit's there, so keep after them til you get it back (after all this isn't a gov entity). Keep the faith and find a techi to help you.
Losing all the history on Ron's dish address was the hardest. But maybe I needed to let it go. DISH has no intention of helping me. We just need to learn not to rely on any these computer age providers. Hopefully young people can speak their language and keep them honest.

ReplyDeleteI am really sorry about this awful service. I would be on their case until they retrieve all the information. I did not even realize that the service people could even get into your accounts like this. I wish you good luck as it might take time and patience too.
ReplyDeleteOh how upsetting for you. I hope you'll eventually be able to get it restored. They always say that nothing is ever totally gone from the internet, its just not always easy to get it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about having paper copies of some things. Lloyd always stores his passwords and codes on a program in hs phone. Twice he's forgotten the password to his secure online password holder (?). I now insist on having all passwords safely stored in a place only he and I know about. As we get older, we forget lots of things so this will keep some things safe for us.
Oh no! That's all wrong. They must have backed up the information recently; that's a basic procedure in I.T. They're just being cheap and lazy, refusing to make the effort to restore it. :-(
ReplyDeleteI am so so sorry. And particularly that they stole the emails from Ron's account.
ReplyDeleteThat is just plain awful. They need to try to do more to restore your information or at least explain to your satisfaction WHY they can't.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh that is so sad - I know that has to be so frustrating - I can't imagine - I am so sorry.
ReplyDeleteWell dad gum, that just stinks, especially about Ron's account. I would drive them crazy until they found it. Wish I could fix it for you. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteAnnie, that is so terrible! There is nothing worse than having information vanish. I've lost things that way before when changing providers so years back I started backing up everything to a separate drive. I have several now. Some emails you lose because they are linked to the original providers and aren't available with new ones, but there is nothing worse than that sort of loss. I feel the pain. I think it's the same sort of pain I had when one of my nieces accidentally deleted the last phone message I had from my mother. I still feel the sting of not being able to hear her voice except in memory.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to read this!! This digital world of ours is so fragile we forget that we can lose everything as a house on fire. I have 4 (yes four) voice mails on my answering machine from my grandchildren and I know I will lose the voice mail some day...but not for now. I do HATE cable companies as they are unnatural freaks of a business, Like Vampires they suck us dry
ReplyDeleteso thats awful...but there are softwares to retrieve lost mails and data..check with some techies
ReplyDeleteYou are exactly right - if you committed some kind of crime, they would surely come up with all that info.
ReplyDeleteMUNIR, I have already give up hope and am moving on. Will try to recover as many contacts as I can remember and change the info. Still can't believe this happened.
ReplyDeletePAT MACKENZIE, Oh I had all my passwords separate, that's for sure. They are in a book that I call "My Brain". LOL
ReplyDeleteELEPHANT'S CHILD, That's the one I can't bear to think about. But maybe it was time I let go. Still....just sayin'..
ReplyDeleteJEANIE, They did explain. They deleted it. It's gone. I guess there just wasn't anything more to say.
ReplyDeleteSPARKLING RED, I believe that also, but they will have nothing to do with that idea.
ReplyDeleteCHATTY CRONE, Yep that's about it. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteAUNT BETSY, I have had so many things go wrong with DISH and with US Cellular and AT&T. There is no arguing. We are at their mega-mercy.
ReplyDeleteTALON, That must have been terrible. Thankfully I have several tapes of Ron telling his sea stories and right now I realize I better be doing something to preserve those. So much going in my life that I haven't been able to curl up with STRINGS AND BONES yet. Hoping to do that soon. Just the bits and pieces are so grabbing it is hard to move on to my other concerns.
ReplyDeleteTABOR, what a great analogy. Vampires for sure! You really gave me something to think about also when you said "house on fire". Just thinking about that kind of loss, this seems almost small.
ReplyDeleteASHOK, I hate to think what that would cost. I've got to weigh the pros and cons. So far I have contacted most of my vendors, etc. to change the email address. Guess I will just keep on keeping on.
ReplyDeleteLYNN, Don't give me any ideas! LOL
ReplyDeleteOh no that really sucks, I would be devastated too. I can't imagine you will ever get it back, these companies don't give a damn about us little people really. It's all business to them.
ReplyDeleteLL COOL JOE, It is sad that you are exactly right. It is all about the bottom line.
DeleteG.A.: Clean words can't truly do justice to my opinion of DISH right now and text acronyms could probably convey the message, but this is your blog and I daresay I wouldn't want to pollute it with my select adjectives, but I will say that what you went through bites the biggest set of you-know-what that God has ever created.
ReplyDeleteFather Nature's Corner
GB MILLER, my whole family applauded when I read your comment. They nominated you as my special deputy. LOL
DeleteWow. Why don't they just call the NSA? Surely, someone in this country has your information somewhere.
ReplyDeleteRIOT KITTY, all of the responses from DISH simply meant "We do not give a flying f**k about your problem." You and I both know NSA could get it for me.
DeleteWhy weren't you given the opportunity to log in n save that info before it was deleted???
ReplyDeleteYoung folks have no clue why we hang onto old accounts- They haven't lost their favorite people who are represented there yet- Someone deleted my old mail account when I was offline one month, including email from my Mom n Her sis who both died the same winter- so I know that pain n anger.
The Co. changed their policy from use every 60 days to 30 to not lose acct, unknown to me- while my service was out n I had no phone line. That service tech should be held responsible for getting your info, or for lying to you.
Sorry you have to go thru that frustration!
