HAND ME MY PANTS

Yesterday I had my Cortisone steroid shot in my hip at 10:30AM. They informed me I would be virtually pain free until about 4:30PM then the pain would return for 24 to 48 hours before we knew if it was going to work long range. The moment I stepped off the table I was doing a happy dance. I could get in and out of the car easily, walk up and down the stairs in my home, sit comfortably in a chair and change my clothes putting on my pants with ease!

Needless to say my sister went along to be my support as well as my chauffeur and my photographer.

Well they lied to me. They said the pain would come back around 4:30 yesterday afternoon. I've been up all night waiting..... and NO MORE PAIN!  Just kidding about the all night part. I climbed out of bed this morning feeling great. Mild discomfort might describe what I feel if anything. Woohoo!

I have many to thank for prayers and well wishes. Looks like this is going to be a successful procedure for me to repeat every 3 months if needed and hopefully prolong the hip replacement.

The second blown up photo showing the hip joint with the needle going in just below it. There is dye in the cortisone steroid that will flow up and around that entire ball joint during the coming hours.

As Ron always said, "Better living through chemistry.".

(Of course now I have no excuses to call for help. or to put off my housework and laundry, etc.  Maybe I should squeeze a little more sympathy from family and friends before shouting all this news.  LOL)

Cathy, don't be a spoil sport:) I know it might change but I am pretending I'm good for life.

It is such joy. Now I have to have someone remind me not to limp. It is such a habit that I have to remember it isn't necessary now. lol

"Dance, then, wherever you may be,
I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,
and I'll lead you all, wherever you may be,
and I'll lead you all in the Dance, said he."
    A favorite song of mine:)
    Hugs back at ya.

Ron used to get the spinal steroid injections and was so sad when they stopped working for him. Still they gave him some happy walking times while they did work that he would not have had otherwise.

Laundry and bed making. Both things I always would like help with.

Everyone who had the hip replacement loves it and I would do it if I wasn't so afraid of another surgery. Threw a blood clot in the last one and had heart attack while in the hospital. Don't want to stop blood thinners again if I can keep from it.

  10. YAE! I'm so happy for you. What joy to be pain free. I was too gutless to get the shot before. Now I've got shoulder pain again and hoping it doesn't get worse.

Cortisone is a miracle cure. My daughter was all but disabled after a dancing injury. She could not put weight on her ankle for 3 weeks. She got a cortisone shot and walked out of the doctors office.

Glad yours worked just as well.

  14. Good news. Chronic pain is a drain! My back pain comes and goes, but I think it is more going this days. Being able to move without carefulness is a blessing.

  15. Wonderful news. So glad the shot worked so well for you. Hopefully it will last longer than the 3 months. Milk the help as long as you can.

  17. Annie,

My FIL used to say that he crawled into the Doctor's office for his Cortisone shot and danced his way home.

Happy it was the same for you.

About the housework. I just put out some "GET WELL" cards on my mantle and when visitors come into my dusty house they say,"Oh,dear, look at all those cards. I guess she was too sick to clean."

  18. That sounds terrific, G-A. I could do with some that! I'll be following your progress with interest. I've got a crazy hip, too. The joys of growing older!! :)

I could not believe how easy the shot was. I dreaded it and feared the pain from it, but the PA who administered it was fantastic and they really numb you well before giving the shot. Don't be “gutless” if the shot might help.

I don't know these shots weren't around when my mother was my age. Her whole life would have been different if she could have walked with ease.

Thank you. You and me both:)

    Elephant's Child
I do hope it will continue for a long time but now that I have had a taste of what it is like to be rid of the stumbling and limping and inability to bend, I know when the shots quit I will be ready for the hip replacement.

I forget that I don't have to limp anymore and find myself hobbling around as if the pain was still present. One woman gave me some good advice yesterday and that was to plant my heel first when I walk. That has truly helped me stop limping.

I think my helpers have already made a mass exodus:)

A funny thing about getting rid of severe pain – suddenly you notice all the lesser aches and pains that you were not aware of. lol

    Nancy
Getting out the “get-well-cards” immediately. Love that. Love you my friend!

    Lee
Never fear, I advise everyone of my progress, even the mailman.

Thank you my friend. And I am happy for you with all the good things starting to happen in your life.

  22. That's the first time I've heard that doctors have been right about when the pain would stop. Good for you. I'm so glad that it worked out.

Now, be good and stay out of trouble.
