SKEPTICALLY HOPEFUL

It is here.  A prescription FDA approved weight loss pill.  I have it.  My Endocrinologist in conjunction with my Cardiologist prescribed it. This is my second day on Qsymia.  Right now I am not looking for weight loss results as much as I am looking for the possible side effects that might occur involving my other health issues.  As with all weight loss aids this one is recommended to be accompanied by proper diet and exercise.  Since I have been doing those things on my own with my cardiac rehab and reasonable meals with no results, it seemed time to try another avenue.  My weight issues are causing a lot of my other health concerns.

Qsymia is NOT covered by insurance.  Out of pocket is $150 for 30 days.  I managed to find a coupon for 1/2 off and my first 30 days is only $75 at CVS pharmacy.  If it works for me I will probably try paying the $150 to go forward.

Has anyone else tried this with good/bad results or do you know anyone who has?

  1. Sorry, Annie, I don't know anyone who's tried this. I hope it works for you without causing any complications.

I wish you and Ron a beautiful holiday weekend!

  2. I've never heard of it either, but I really hope it works for you without any complications.

  3. I have heard nothing about that drug. I hope it works really well for you with no side effects.

  4. I don't know anything about it. I hope it works for you, but definitely watch for side effects. Eyes open is a way of life, in any case.

  5. I don't know about this drug, but wouldn't it be nice if it worked? I wonder how it's pronounced. Would be a great Scrabble word if it weren't a proper noun.

  6. Nope. Haven't heard of it. I am still working my butt off and lost a 1/2 pound after almost three weeks of hellacious dedication! But I can now run three miles without feeling like I am dying. Glad you are watching closely the side effects. Does it have to be long term? It would be nice if it was only for a jump start. I wish you luck on all this as losing weight is a difficult enterprise that most skinny people cannot every understand.

No, I have never heard of Qsymia. Let us know if or when you have good results. Being over-weight is never good. I have weight issues, myself. Best wishes to you.

  8. Talon -- We are so hoping my son can come and help us get our property cleared up again. Not much of a holiday for him but we could not manage without him.

LL Cool Joe -- The listed side effects are headaches and mood swings as well as others but those two are the ones I dread most. I cannot take head aches especially.

Jeanie -- So far so good. Only third pill today and the first fourteen days are half strength.

cube -- No kidding...so many pills, so many warnings.

Kerry -- It will be wonderful if it works and even more wonderful if insurance will begin to cover it. Since it will help my heart I can't imagine why my insurance won't but they don't cover any weight loss aids.

Tabor -- Wish I could run. I have to walk or ride my exercise bike. Since I have signed up for my rehab maintenance program I have access to their gym everyday for $32 per month.

gigihawaii -- I will check back and let everyone know if I was able to stay on the capsules and if it is working for me. Thanks for the good wishes. I would rather be dancing the hula:)

  9. Hi Annie I think you used Alli at once? I think I was influenced by your post to go get it. Did it work for you? I never followed through I don't think I was consuming enough fat.

  10. I don't know about this particular brand name of medication, however I do know someone who took Topamax (the topiramate part of your two-part pill) for weight loss. It work like magic - until she landed in hospital with a horribly painful kidney stone, which is a possible side effect. She said the pain was worse than birth labour. (Quote: "I'd rather have three babies than go through that again.") Yikes. But she's OK now. Not on the Topamax anymore, though.

  11. Brown English Muffin -- I loved Alli and lost 48 pounds without any of their horrible "leakage" side effects...until I did and that was that. Then I gained almost all of it back. So sad,

Sparkling Red -- You have hit on exactly one of the many concerns. My doctor is scheduling me for some good lab follow ups. I hope that will help. Was Topamax a prescription drug or over the counter?

  12. Well I don't know anything about it - but I sure need to lose weight! I wonder if my insurance covers it? sandie

  13. I have never heard of it, Annie. Sure hope it works well for you.

  14. I haven't heard of this drug. There is always that worry when taking meds of any kind. I hope it helps. Losing weight is a struggle, it's so easy to be discouraged when you don't see results. Here's hoping for success with this and better health.

  15. i have heard of side effects - gas, bloating and diarriah, but apparently it does work. Expect a week to get them if you do have any effects. I think i am fortunate, my weight loss is occuring due to this weird weather ( i think) and have been happy with out pills.

  16. Yeow! That is a lot out of pocket. I haven't heard of anyone I know using it, but good luck!

  17. I've never heard of it either. I wonder how it's supposed to do its thing? I looked it up and found one side effect is constipation. That usually makes me weigh more, but at least I get to deduct five pounds (hey, I make the rules) and tell people I'm just full of shit.

  18. Chatty Crone -- It must really be new because no one seems to have heard of it. Perhaps if it proves to work well it might go over the counter like Alli did.

kenju -- I was surprised when my doctor recommended it.

Seriously Though -- I already take so many pills, what's one more. lol

Brite Mist -- Good for you! Willpower is always better than pills.

Riot Kitty -- You are sure right about that!

Murr Brewster -- Don't know about the "full of shit" part but sure know you are full of funny

  19. I don't know. I've never heard of it. It's not in my dept. Someone under me may have heard of it but they didn't bring it to my attention. I'll have to check my notes on this. What? Oh yeah, I don't take notes.
BTW, I'm trying to boost my resume' in case I ever need a job in Washington.

  20. I can't help, sorry. Hope it does the trick. Let us know and best of luck!

  21. I've never heard of it but would be interested in knowing how it works for you. Hopefully you won't have any uncomfortable side effects. Keep us posted.

  22. I just hope that it is safe. Side effects can be tricky and should be carefully watched.

  23. I can't imagine paying that much! Just that price would stress me out- along with trying to lose weight n the worry of needing to lose would stress me out.

Probably all the slowing down of lifting that you had to do is why the diet by itself isin't as effective as it should be-

But my $250 for 2 fl oz. eyedrops did work really well- I just can't ever buy them for that money again unless I don't pay rent...

So weigh the pros n cons, remembering ultimately that pills probably won't help you as much as good nutrition to fuel n heal your body. Do you drink green tea yet? Just wondering

Good luck no matter what you decide. Of course no one has taken that kind yet- I don't know either!

  24. I've never tried weight-loss pills although I need them! I hope they work well for you with no side-effects.
I used to work out at the gym and walk and I never lost any weight either. Now, I can't do that and since stopping I have gained weight. Oh well.

  25. Topamax is a prescription medication. It is normally prescribed for migraines, and it became very popular among a group of women I know when the weight loss "side effect" became widely known. Incidentally, the woman who had the kidney stone also happens to go by the name Annie! So maybe all the Annie stones are spoken for and you'll be okay (with your wise doctor's guidance).

  26. No kidding? I've never heard of this. I do have a cousin or three who would benefit from some help though. I hope it works for you. Keeping my fingers crossed.

  27. Waiting with bated breath to hear your conclusions - very conscious of sitting here with my muffins.
