ASK THE OTHER PARENT

Slim, our very intelligent BMC (Black Mouth Cur) knows when the table scraps are going out for the chickens. Slim cannot go outside at that time and she makes no effort to get me to let her out, but she will go to Ron when she thinks I’m not aware and let him know she needs out. I have informed him that the chicken’s scraps are out and not to let Slim out.

Yesterday Ron had been out for a drive. I was preparing the bucket for the chickens and Slim was staying away, knowing this was not for her. Ron came inside and went into the bathroom. I yelled at him, “Come talk to me when you’re out of there.”

“Okay, I will.”

Next I heard him in the den so I walked down there and said, “You were supposed to come talk to me”

He said, “I was going to but Slim met me outside the bathroom door and led me down here because she wanted out. I thought maybe you were outside and she wanted to be with you. What did you need?”

“I needed to tell you NOT to let Slim out.”

Would you say the dog worked us right on this one?

Yesterday was the one week anniversary of my fitness program. It has been going great thanks to your encouragement. However flu-like symptoms hit me last night and all through today so I missed my exercise. I SHALL get right back to it as soon as I am well!

  1. That is hilarious about Slim - our cats, Lucky and Earl Grey, have pretended not to have had treats in front of the other parent on more than one occasion.

Feel better soon! And congrats on the first week going well! I knew you could do it.

  3. Riot Kitty -- Instead of your cats being Trick or Treaters they are Treat Trickers!

Dorothy -- I run out of lists of things about my bright dog. However I know every dog owner can top me. LOL

  5. Slim is one smart cookie!!

Hoorah for the fitness progress. Hope you feel better fast!

  6. Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. And dogs are way smarter than we are. That's why they get to leep and lay in the shade all day and we go out and slave to bring the kibble home!

  7. Slim sounds a handful and very intelligent:)
    Hope the symptoms don't develop.

  8. Jean -- you are so right about that. It does seem like our pets are more than mortals doesn't it.

Rachel -- Well I know Slim likes to EAT cookies! Thanks for well wishes. I think I might try to re-start my exercise program today.

Quilldancer -- I believe I'm finally on the mend from the stomach virus, thanks. Slim is a pretty hard working dog. She protects the chickens from predators (except when she is the predator after their table scraps!)

Pat -- Yep, our Slim is a very smart girl but I won't go into all her feats of wonder. And thanks, my symptoms are seeming to fade away.

  9. How long did the training take?
You know, the training of Ron by the dog?

  10. LOL - Slim should be renamed Slick! She sure knows how to get what she wants! :)

PS - Feel better and keep going with that fitness program! The reward comes later.

  11. Cliff -- Good observation. It seems she has had us both in training for 3 1/2 years.

Ily -- Slick! Great. I got back into my exercise today. Taking it slow.

  12. Slim is NOT a dumb blond! LOL! Smart as a whip and gorgeous too!

Good job on the exercise. Before long it will become a good habit. :)

I hope your bug is like mine. Came on like flu but was only a little over 24 hours of icky.

  13. OGO -- I haven't thought about Slim being a blond. That's a hoot. Yes the exercise is back and the bug sounds like yours. I'm pretty sure it is over. Still eager for your good news.

  17. You have one smart dog and if you ever breed him, let me know. I have missed your fitness challenge and I must send you a big thumbs up. I know what a challenge this is and I admire you greatly for realizing that your good heath is the most important goal these days! Hurrah! (Oh I did answer your question about the Tonga meeting.)

  18. Woo Hoo, good for you! (That rhymes.) I have a treadmill four feet from the bed, so I have no excuse NOT to use it. I do, in fact, find excuses though, far too often.
    Slim is a smart doggie!

  19. Joe -- Thanks for the continued encouragement. I'm feeling lots better.

Eternally Distracted -- Thanks for dropping by. Yep, the dog usually wins every time.

Mountain Mama -- I have always believed children are bright masters of deceit and trickery, but now I have to rethink that.

Tabor -- We can't breed her because she has been spayed but we strongly recommend BMC dogs for farm dogs.

Jamie Dawn -- As I live and breath, look at you visiting here! WhooHoo! I have to move my exercise bike to get to my freezer. That's a cause for pause. Look, I can rhyme too:)
