WHEN THE PIE WAS OPEN THE BIRDS BEGAN TO SING

We all have had more than one occasion when a song gets stuck in our head. We hear a tune and begin to hum the tune then sing the lyrics. We then have it for hours or days on end. It is not put there on purpose and we usually curse and say, "I can't get this darn song out of my head!"

It is Saturday morning. The weekend is upon us and we all have lots to do. It is my strong suggestion that we intentionally whistle a happy tune (or sing a special song) and get it stuck in our head on purpose. What a better way to get through a busy time than with a song in our hearts. I remember my grandmother always singing hymns in her kitchen while she turned out those delicious meals.

Follow the link to see why I'll be humming Waltz Across Texas. What special song will you select and why?

  1. Caisson Song ... It would be the Army Song if I knew the lyrics.

I'm doing a 5k walk/run today in honor of a soldier. That soldier is my cousin and she's getting deployed to Iraq on June 6.

  2. My song is "Spread A Little Happiness" because with all the gloom and doom in the world if people did one good deed a day and made someone happy perhaps the world would be a better place.

    Have a good week-end.

    Yvonne.

  3. You know, I don't know because all I am listening to is bird song right now. But I just bought two Pink Martini CDs and so one of their songs will be perfect!

  4. Oooh, I wish you had a link to that song !

I'll be thinking of 'Whistle a Happy Tune' from the musical 'The King & I' :)

Have a good weekend Granny !

  5. Annie,

Have you ever visited Disneyworld and been on the ride called "It's a Small World?"

They play a tune on that ride that sounds really catchy at first but the longer it goes on (And Heaven knows,it goes on) it begins to grate on your nerves. You are in a little boat and hundreds of dollies from every country are singing about it being a Small World and all you want them to do is stop singing that tune. But,NO! just when you think it is the end of the ride you turn the corner and there are 500 more dollies singing the same song.

I have kept that tune in my head for as long as a month and only got rid of it when that little dog in the flea commercial started singing "There A'int No Bugs On Me." THAT song replaced Small World. Now I need a new one to get the flea song out of my head.

    Any suggestions?

  8. Believe it or not, not one song in my head this weekend. Too busy with wedding plans I guess, not mine, my son's. But what a great thought. I'm gonna go find a song I love and play it and hopefully it will stay with me for the rest of the weekend.

  10. I have trouble with the last hymn in church each Sunday. It will stay for about 3 or 4 days if I liked it.

  11. Ever since I popped into Fireblossom's site a few days ago and heard Melissa Manchester's "Don't Cry Out Loud," it's been in my head. I LOVE that song!

  13. Bonnie (BIZ) how was the run? Tell your cousin that we thank her for her service and pray for her safety.

Yvonne, that’s a good song title. It seems to be your personal theme song with all the happiness you spread.

Tabor, I’m going to make it a point to become acquainted with Pink Martini.

    L. Annie, the King And I was a favorite of mine. Hope you had a good music filled weekend

OMG Nancy, you got that “Aint no bugs on me” song stuck in MY head!

Shionge, those dances with spouses are truly memorabl.

RK, I live my life to Eye Of The Tiger! Yo Adriannnnnnnnnnne!

Bonnie (bee badd) hope the wedding was fantastic. Can’t wait.

Oh Cliff, I haven’t attended church in so long, but when I did on a regular basis I would carry that last hymn with me too throughout the week.

Scarlet, did you sing it to the top of your lungs all weekend? I’ll bet people applauded when you did.

Gary, I love the Mamas and Papas so much and can just imagine you tooling around Temecula in Old Blue with their company. So cool!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Hope you all moved through your weekends with your songs in your hearts.

  14. This one's in my head:

They say a man should always dress for the job he wants
So why am I dressed up like a pirate in this restaurant
It's all because some hacker stole my identity
Now I'm in here every evening serving chowder and ice tea
Should'a gone to free credit report dot com [wee haw]
I could'a seen this comin' at me like an atom bomb
They monitor your credit and send you e-mail alerts
So you don't end up selling fish to tourists in t-shirts

    Arghhh!!!

BTW, I have seen it all after seeing your last post!!! Haha!!!

  15. We call those earworms and laugh when one of us gets one stuck. The easy way to remove an earworm is to find an annoying song to sing (the kids' favorite is "The Song That Never Ends") and sing it repeatedly. Except, of course, that those songs are even harder to remove. Be sure to pick one you don't hate. Yet!
