The Araucanas are 7 1/2 months old and today one of them produced an egg. A pale green Easter Egg at Christmas time. Isn't it a beauty? I think the young hen was Dolly because she was acting quite proud tonight.

ROOSTER MATING TECHNIQUES

I cannot end 2005 without commenting on the Rooster's mating techniques. I will try to be delicate: Boss Hog is THE GENTLEMAN, polite in mount and dismount; Tom-Twyla is THE SLAMMER, pounding the girls into the dirt; Oreo is THE ENERGIZER BUNNY, who keeps going and going. Am I the only chicken farmer to spend time observing these fowl habits?
