ADVENTURE TIME by Granny Annie

Liam Connor sat in front of the fireplace inglenook thinking about this journey. He was becoming a traveller wanting to visualize all the sights and sounds of Cork. His small village had paucity in comparison to things the big cities of Ireland had to offer. He hefted his sack over his shoulder and walked under the gate pergola for the last time to venture out into the world.

Liam was a maker of cabinets and had to leave behind the forest of yews that provided the best timber for his craft. His family begged him not to leave. They assured him the big city of Cork was a place full of greed and madness.

That is only myth, Liam told them, and off he went to live his new life of adventure and romance. He was confident every place needed great woodworkers of his skill.

  1. A coniferous tree which has red berrylike fruits, and most parts of which are highly poisonous. Yews are linked with folklore and superstition and can live to a great age; the timber is used in cabinetmaking and (formerly) to make longbows.

  1. Liam was right. Every place DOES need great woodworkers. This is a wonderful use of Hilary's prompts. Thank you for joining us again.

  2. Thanks Granny Annie - lovely to be reminded of the coast of southern Ireland - I hope Liam was successful in his adventure ... but minded the Yew wood, as it's so poisonous ... Thanks so much for joining in - cheers Hilary

  3. Once you got past inglenook?(had to look it up), I knew you had it made. Have high hopes for Liam. A craftsman can make it anywhere.

  4. I hope Liam finds success and happiness in his travels and maybe comes home eventually to settle back into cabinet making.

  5. He may be right, or he may find out there's no place like home and happiness is best found in your own back yard. Or perhaps your own yew forest.
