GRASPING AT STRAWS WFW

Elephant's Child provided our words today.  It seems our friend Vest is caught up in life's many concerns and was not able to provide Words For Wednesday.  EC is great to always fill in. We all are wishing the best for our friend at The Daily Gaggle.

Today's words are:
Protest, Burden,Pattern, Reckless, Hopscotch, Camel

There were six other words but I chose these for today.  I named my poem Grasping At Straws because that was what I was doing to come up with something.  LOL

GRASPING AT STRAWS by Granny Annie

This town had never experienced
A takeover by such large vermin.
Their attempts to eradicate
Had created quite a burden.

It was an important issue
So they made a polite request
Hoping that would work
Better than a demanding protest.

The critters showed up in homes
As well as the local tavern.
They appeared in restaurants
No seeming rhyme or pattern.

One invader pranced around
In a woman's fancy necklace.
Some laughed at the antics
Making others feel restless.

Once it was even suggested
Someone use a stopwatch
To count the times these visitors
Were observed playing hopscotch.

Yes, a most unusual event...
This town's unique occasion.
Who would ever forget
The Historic Camel Invasion.
