ESTATE TERROR

Just moments before I was sitting on this mower.

I always mow the field with my big tractor.  Got it in my head that it would be good to mow a walking path around the rim of the field with my riding mower.  This mower would cut a lot closer.

First I lost the key to the mower so I ordered another from Amazon.  It got here quickly and as soon at the UPS man delivered it I was off and running.

Mowed around once and decided to go a second time.  Thought there was a lot of dust stirring up until I realized it wasn't dust, it was smoke and looked down to see flames lapping at my feet.

I jumped off the mower, called the neighbors who came with fire extinguishers but not enough to stop the flames from spreading so called 911 and the Volunteer Fire Department arrived putting it out before it could  rage further.

Now I have a walking path but it has a rather large black melted object in my way.
Fire going up my Fir tree.  Glad no structures were close by.
Volunteer Fire Department on the scene with two trucks.
Remains of the day:-(

  2. That was scary but I'm glad you noticed that the dust wasn't dust and flames were at your feet in time to get away from it, It could have been a lot worse.

  3. Oh my goodness!!! I'm so glad you are OK. Yes - that could have been bad.

And so sorry about your tractor.

  4. That was scary! Glad the gas tank didn't explode! Well, they say after a fire, the area grows up lush and green again - next summer maybe? I don't think you'll be mowing on that tractor anymore...

  7. So sorry, but glad you were not injured in any way. What a mess! Now I am thinking sit on mowers need fire extinguishers beneath the seats! Glad that this did not start a meadow or field fire!! You at least seem to have a good attitude about it all.

  8. Sorry about the loss of your mower, and very thankful you weren't harmed.

I bet the next time you say you're firing up the mower people come from miles around.

  12. I'm glad you're not hurt. I guess the motor on the riding mower is far lower than on the tractor; too close to all that long grass and generated too much heat maybe?

  13. Glad to hear that you came out of it unscathed. Sounds like a fuel line/oil line might've ruptured, which would account for the intensity of the fire.

And who would've thunk that you would take a crack at modern art? You can call, "Man's Inhumanity To The Farm." j/k

  14. Good grief, that was terrifying. I am so glad you are OK and that your property wasn't scorched. Tabor has a good point. I may try to figure out how to mount one on mine.
